ID documents - change of address/MOT help

My husband and I just moved house. I haven't yet changed the address on my driving licence as I need to get my car MOT'd next week and I wouldn't have the V5 or licence back from DVLA in time.

I tried to change the address with DVLA online for the licence but was unable to do so as my passport is still in my maiden name! I have 5 years on it and didn't want to change it over to the new style passport.

I have also applied for premium bonds following the sale of my flat but again they need ID uploaded and because my passport is in my maiden name and driving licence still has my old address I can't use them!

What can I do?!

I dont understand this. I have never needed a driving license or V5 to MOT a car

You can just update name in your passport! I too have never needed id for an mot. It is illegal not to update your licence etc though.

I've always been told to bring the V5 document along for MOTs? Not the licence but need that up to date in order to have ID for the premium bonds.

I can maybe check with the garage about the V5 when I make the appointment. Just stressed out having to change address all over.

Never taken a V5 to an MOT. Not necessary.

Council tax bill can be used as proof of address normally.

Never ever taken v5 or driving licence to get an MOT.

Change your address on your driving licence, update your name on your passport. Neither is a biggie.

I've literally just had our car MOT'd - no one asked for the V5. And they never have in 25 years of car ownership.

torquewench · 27/10/2020 14:19

Ive never had to take either document for an MOT.

wowfudge · 27/10/2020 14:24

Have you perhaps misunderstood what they've asked for and assumed they mean the v5?

FingersXrossed · 27/10/2020 23:18

No I've definitely been asked to present the V5 for MOTs. But a bit of googling tells me that this isn't required by DVLA but other people have been asked to by the garage? And it's because the chassis number is on the V5 so they can just take it from that rather than getting it off the vehicle?

That's good though if I don't need to bring it; means I can just arrange the change of address without having to keep hold of it.

Thanks all.
