Help! Google Chromecast to watch a concert

TechnoDino · 27/10/2020 10:51

I have seen an online ‘concert’ ticket (Gorillaz) that I want to buy for DD. It says that the event is a livestream which is accessible via Chromecast.

I have looked up Chromecast and it appears to be a dongle which plugs into the TV to stream. It is also possibly the only gadget or gizmo we don’t yet own in our house.

As I am also a technological dinosaur, can anyone please explain if
a. I actually need to buy one to stream this event? Or can I just stream via wifi or something?
and
b. what else could I use it for to justify the £30 cost? (already have Netflix, Amazon prime etc)

Hello is it the Song Machine Live show you're looking at? I've just had a look at the info and no I don't think you have to own an Chromcast to watch it. It looks like it is just an option if you wanted to. Some streaming providers don't allow you to cast live (ch 4 for example) but I think they've just included this as an option for those who do own a Chromecast and want to cast it to their tv. You can stream it on your laptop/PC device.

Ah, thank you for this! Yes, it’s Song Machine live event in December.

So I can view via laptop, but would need a Chromecast to watch on the big 4k tv?

I promise that I’m perfecty intelligent in most respects, but this is like a foreign language! Grin

If your 4k TV isn't a smart one then Chromecast probably would be the only way you'll be able to watch it on that screen. I'm not sure how smart tvs hook into streaming services as I've never owned one but maybe there is some more info the live show's faq page.
