Books for. Year 1 (5 nearly 6 year old)

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone can recommend some good books for my 5 soon to be 6 year old DS.

My eldest DS wasn’t a reader at all - youngest is probably an average level reader, but loves books and is pretty emotionally mature for his age. I’d love some recommendations for books he can either have read to him (or have a go at reading himself). He isn’t into factual books ( again like my eldest!) and tends to prefer stories. Not into football etc.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

My son is just turned 6 and reads quite well but prefers me to read to him. Things I've read to him over the last 6months are:

The boy who grew dragons (there's 4, last one is being released in the new year)
The 13 story treehouse series
Clever Polly and the stupid wolf
The Enid Blyton short story collections (Magic & mischief etc)
Shifty Mcgifty and Slippery Sam (the story collections rather than the picture books)
Mr Penguin series

We've literally just finished the Mr Gum series. I thought they were awful but DS loved them.

Hot Dog by Anh Do (also a series)
Claude books by Alex T. Smith (also Mr Penguin books!)
Project X Alien Adventures series
You Choose (A picture book but lots of fun) illus. by Nick Sharatt
Nibbles the book monster books (also picture books with lots of humour and lots of little jokes etc to spot)
Pamela Butchart series (Phantom Lollipop man etc)

Ooooh and the Agents of the Wild series by Jennifer Bell
