I had an abortion ten years ago at 5 weeks, medical not surgical. Circumstances were horrific and I’m no longer with that man. It took me a long time to recover from the abuse.

I’m now in a happy relationship and nearly 39. We are going to start trying and I know the only answer is to try to know but do you think the chances of this happening so late in life are even more reduced by the abortion? Doctors don’t think so but I still feel worried.

It would be nice to hear from anyone with similar background. Feeling worried and low today.

My friend had an abortion at 37 and got pregnant at 38.

The abortion won't have any effect on whether you get pregnant now or not as it was medical and I assume you tool all your medication you were given.

Having a baby at 39 is perfectly possible I know about 6 people who had a first baby at 39+ the fact that you got pregnant before is a good sign, you should try asap but there's no reason you won't stand a good chance. The people I know who spoke about their fertility problems, none of them were age related they were all related to their body make up (inc me)

The abortion should not affect your ability to get pregnant now. A number of my friends have had successful pregnancies after terminations.

I had my third baby at 39 after getting pregnant accidentally. Plenty of women have babies at 39 and later.

Don't let the termination haunt you now - if you do struggle to get pregnant then the previous termination is unlikely to be the reason.
