If you're having a can of soup...

... do you have a whole can or just half?

I've just noticed that a serving is half a can - Surely that isn't enough? I've been over indulging in soup for years!

Why is it ok to sneer at people who only eat half a tin of soup? That's all I'd eat, and I wouldn't have anything with it, either.

I personally think the people who have a whole tin plus bread/crumpets/other bready things are greedy and are probably overweight.

But it's somehow bad to say this, whereas it's ok to be snide about people who don't want to eat that much.

Oh dear Confused

CareerFuckerUpper · 26/10/2020 18:41

I never eat canned soup because I love cooking BUT I quite often eat the whole pan , so that probably answers your question.

Elizaaa · 26/10/2020 18:45

Assume this ^^ pp is referring to an 800ml catering tin. If not there’s real issues there with her only managing 100mls of soup at a meal time Maybe she buys the tubs in the chilled section? They are bigger than tins*.

Nope. Just the regular 400ml tins. Though "about a third" of one of those is more like 150ml by my calculation. And I've already said that I have a piece of bread too so its not only soup. I'm a short person, though a bit chubby. Its plenty for someone of my size who us going to have a cooked meal in the evening

Are you actually full though or is it just an 'appropriate' amount to have in your opinion?

BarbiesBitch · 26/10/2020 18:46

if I’m having it without any bread then definitely a whole can, If I’m planning on having some bread with it then sometimes half a can

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/10/2020 18:48

@WinnieMac.
It's soup not melted lard.

Depends what you mean by "full" Elizaa. If you mean "not hungry any more" then yes, I am full. If you mean "couldn't eat any more if I tried" then no.

Me too- if I make my own soup (always random mixed veg, occasionally with beans in) I always eat the whole lot !

Elizaaa · 26/10/2020 19:12

Well I just ate this, thanks to this thread. Heinz tomato. Got the whole tin in my bowl too. Obviously I didn't eat the whole block of cheese 😂

Don't believe you with the cheese, but your soup doesn't look hot enough... :o

They may be exercisers. I'm a runner and eat a whole can with about half a loaf (usually unsliced - I just bite it off in the same way you'd eat a Mars Bar) and half a block of cheese.

I'm at the low end of my healthy weight parameters. Don't judge everybody by your own bar.

Yesterday I ate a whole tin of lentil & vegetable soup. It was a massive 175 calories for the whole tin and I had some oatcakes too. Was that greedy of me? Is eating that much for lunch going to make me gain weight? Hmm
Ninkanink · 26/10/2020 19:25

I hardly ever eat tinned soup tbh but DH likes it for lunch sometimes although now that he’s WFH not so much. I prefer to make fresh soups. And when we have that we both always have two very big servings.

Elizaaa · 26/10/2020 19:26

@WaxOnFeckOff You are right, it was a bit too cold. I didn't want to burn it and I fucked about putting encona hot pepper sauce in it and taking pictures of it so 😔

Are you my DP? He’s been known to eat a whole baguette in that manner Grin and is also underweight

My DH ate 5 bowls of homemade lentil soup last week 😂

The bowls are tiny though, not like my unicorn bowl.

NaughtipussMaximus · 26/10/2020 19:30

I make flavoured butters and add them to grilled crusty bread (like garlic bread slices, but all sorts of flavours) to eat with soup. So that is basically melted lard. No wonder I’m so fat!

jennie0412 · 26/10/2020 19:31

@NaughtipussMaximus Shock you must give us a run down of the flavours!

It my only talent, being able to tell if something is hot or too salty but just looking. I feel I'm wasting my skills...:o

I also used to be able to tell which cup of tea had sugar in but I don't drink tea and not in the office so i may not still be able to do this. I wont rule out that I can smell the sugar either.

Gingaaarghpussy · 26/10/2020 19:34

I've just had a whole tin of chicken broth with a bag of egg fried rice added (frozen originally). My cat enjoyed it too.
If I have any heinz soup I usually have bread.
Beans is a whole tin, with sausages and a slice of bread. I've also discovered spaghetti and sausages, which goes well with bread.

It’s the people who comment about eating less but then simply don’t understand how anyone could eat more than a thimble full of food and anyone who eats more is guzzling and slurping.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/10/2020 19:49

I was a popular lunch buddy at the canteen - could spot an over salty lentil soup from across the room :o

Returned to this thread after many hours just to see if it had turned into the usual MN under eating competition and sure enough Grin
