Just that really! She loves sewing at school and has put it on her Christmas list. I haven't the first clue and can't thread a needle. I want something that won't be too tricky or advanced for her as she's a beginner, or take up to much room. If anyone has any advice I would much appreciate it Smile

I have this one: Brother AE1700 Sewing Machine with Instructional DVD, 17 Stitch amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A4ARE5K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3nSLFb111B23N]]

It’s very simple to use and does everything I need it to. Got it as a replacement fir an older, far more complex machine and I’ve got on really well with it.

Don't fall into the trap of buying a mini/midi type machine - they are just a bit shit.

That Brother linked above seems fine, reviews well. I have a basic Husqvarna machine, good enough for my purposes. Janome machines have a good reputation (I think John Lewis' own brand ones are Janomes by another name)

Do you having a sewing cafe type shop near you. They are normally friendly and full of advice.

Thank you, I was actually going to get a mini one so I'll bear that in mind. We don't have anything like that around here I don't think, she started sewing for the first time in year 7 and loves it
