Gymnastics or Dance?

Starting with mommy and me classes, which do you think is best?

I'm leaning more towards dance as I think it would have more opportunities in the future if DC were to choose to continue with it.

At mommy and me level, just whichever one is most convenient to get to and at the best time/day to not interfere with the rest of your routine.

You'll have a better idea at 3/4 years old if your child would prefer dance, gymnastics or something else entirely and can adjust the classes then.

I would look at how each is taught. Round here the dance classes were all v po-faced, structured towards exams from a v early age and generally seemed to assume you wanted a serious run at it. The gym classes on the other hand were v well run, physically challenging but huge fun, structured around progress rather than formal grades and assumed you wanted to be active rather than a gymnast. I completely accept in other places it might be the other way round. But I would focus on the”actually wanting to go factor” as that is how you will get the most out of it.

My DD’s have done dance since they were little. They made friends and one of them took a Dance GCSE type exam and was awarded a distinction.
It also helped with their confidence.

At this age I think the most important thing is the teacher. Some teachers really have a knack for making the class fun and appealing for little ones. Can you do a trial session?

@SocialBees I hadn't even thought of doing a trial session. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Will definitely do that and see which we like best, thank you!
