Can I ask a monumentally stupid question about breakfast?

IWantToGoDancing · 25/10/2020 19:27

I've never eaten breakfast. My mum gave up about 14 and since then I've not eaten until about midday.

Anyway, I'm trying to change my habits because I'm a bit underweight.

I just can't fathom the logistics of actually making something to eat and cleaning it all up.

I get up at 6.30 and leave at 7.30. How long does it all take you? What do you have?

Ideally something low in calories because I couldn't be doing with toast.

Ooh yes, full fat yogurt with some toasted nuts would be great. I'd skip the banana though, lots of sugar in a banana.

Doyouknowwhat · 25/10/2020 19:54

How can scrambled eggs take 30 mins???
Break an eggnog two.into a microwave dish, ass salt and pepper, a dash if milk and zap for 1 to 2 mins.
Eat. Rinse the bowl.
5 min max, start to end.

Stoic123 · 25/10/2020 19:59

Handful of frozen berries blitzed in microwave for a minute or so to a nice warm compote. Sprinkle of cinnamon powder and then a large dollop of full-fat greek yoghurt on. Add drizzle of honey or a few choppped nuts if feeling indulgent.

brown bread with cheddar is supposed to be a really good breakfast, for energy and stamina, according to a physio i used to know

Doyouknowwhat · 25/10/2020 20:01
  • egg or, not eggnog!
MagicoRomantico · 25/10/2020 20:01

@IWantToGoDancing

Could you have breakfast when you arrive at work?

Yes, but I'd have to make it before leaving the house and bring it with me.

Scrambled eggs take ages! And having to scrub the pan. Is that not half an hour?!

I'd leave the pan until I got home! But I realise I'm a slattern

Excess calories make you fat CrunchyNutNC, Wether they come from fat, protein or carbs

I take a yogurt into work & add uncooked oats, nuts & seeds.

Meuniere · 25/10/2020 20:02

@IWantToGoDancing

If you eat a bit more fat it won't cause your blood sugar to spike/crash (like a high carb meal would), and you'll find it easier to keep control/moderate how much you eat.

What do you mean by fat?

Any food that has some fat in it Nuts have some, avocados too. And of course anything prepared using oil/butter etc

The thing with the blood sugar is also true with proteins (nuts, legumes, eggs, dairy etc..)

itsonlysubterfuge · 25/10/2020 20:03

@CrunchyNutNC

Fat is good for you, but fatty meats and butter are high in saturated fat which can incread your HDL, which increases your risk of cardiovascular disease. Butter and fatty meats are not good for you.

I make scrambled eggs at work. They take 2 mins in the microwave.

When I do them in the saucepan at home they take 5 mins to cook, 5 mins to eat & 5 mins to wash up (non stick pan).

It’s actually more complex than that, The wrong type of carbs and stress make you put fat on around the middle.

Omelette very quick

HowFastIsTooFast · 25/10/2020 20:06

Plain yoghurt with a handful of granola and maybe some pomegranate seeds. Takes 30 seconds to make and about 2 minutes to eat. Done!

You want increased HDL. It's LDL you want to avoid.

Anon22 · 25/10/2020 20:07

A smoothie or a protein shake?

MikeUniformMike · 25/10/2020 20:08

Porridge. Put some oats in a bag, take it to work, put it in a mug, you don't need much as they swell. Add boiling water, enough to cover them and a little bit more. Give it a good stir and leave it to stand for 5 mins. Eat it. Job done.

00100001 · 25/10/2020 20:08

well, if you think a piece of toast (~100cals) is too many calories, there's something mad going on there...

plus a banana and yogurt is more calories (~200cals) Confused

Not all calories are equal. Calories in the form of carbohydrate are really easily and readily converted to fat, so you get fat with fewer calories if you eat high carb. There's a reason we've fattened cattle on grains for centuries!
HalloweenGhostlyHare · 25/10/2020 20:10

I almost always take breakfast to work with me.

I make a ham sandwich some days. Or take yoghurt and fruit.

I am a fan of a mug of soup for breakfast also.... I have a thick pea soup with ham that I make and often eat for breakfast. My colleagues think I am mad, but I do not like sweet breakfast type foods.

DParse · 25/10/2020 20:10

M&S do some very good fruity yoghurts (sorry - I can't remember what they are really called, but they are really intensely coloured). They have blackcurrant and strawberry (poss. something else, too?)

They have about 60 calories per pot, and are delicious. No artificial crap in them, either. I'm bad with breakfast and with calories, but if I ever feel the need to eat before lunchtime, that's what I do.

I couldn't be doing with nuts etc due to excess calories.

lughnasadh · 25/10/2020 20:12

Do you have an eating disorder OP?

Deedee248 · 25/10/2020 20:13

Toast with butter and peanut butter with a banana. High calorie low effort

Oh dear! You have mentioned the only two foods in the entire world that I cannot eat! 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Teateaandmoretea · 25/10/2020 20:14

Weetabix is the quickest (I leave the house in normal times at 6.30) 😁

JaffaJaffJaffpussycatpuss · 25/10/2020 20:14

Peanut butter on a rice cake?
I have never been able to eat breakfast because my stomach doesn't wake up at that time.

JaffaJaffJaffpussycatpuss · 25/10/2020 20:15

Sorry only just saw that you said you couldn't have peanut butter.
What about cashew butter
