Please help me with my new Doc Martens!

Bought a new pair of Doc Marten Chelsea boots, they were going to be my new wear with everything boots but my god they are like torture devices!

It literally takes about 2 minutes of huffing and puffing, pulling at the tab at the back and at the leather at the front to wiggle my foot into them and then they hurt so bad! Does anyone have any tips to break them in?

Double layered walking socks, utter game changer .

justilou1 · 27/10/2020 04:05

Do we wear the boots in or do the boots change our anatomy over time?

dotty12345 · 27/10/2020 04:27

I've got these which I adore but had them almost 2 years and still not managed to break them in, they're agony!

@dotty12345 - are those the vegan DM? My DSis had a pair. They were impossible to break in as they were synthetic and not leather as there is “no give” in the fabric.

dotty12345 · 27/10/2020 08:48

@PanamaPattie yes, though I didn't realise until I was bought them for Christmas!

MrsWhites · 27/10/2020 13:00

@dotty12345 they are beautiful! I have heard the vegan pairs are harder to wear in so you have my sympathies!

I think I’m making some progress, have been bending and stretching them and some creases are starting to appear which I’m taking as a good sign. Timpson’s recommended their stretching spray so I’ve given them a spray and am currently rocking 2 pairs of thick wool welly socks after heating them up with my hairdryer. After spending £150 on them I will not be defeated by them!

Forgive me if it has been mentioned bit a long shoe horn is your friend wit Chelsea boots

PaperMonster · 27/10/2020 13:37

Wow. Didn’t realise DMs still needed wearing-in! Have bought two pairs over the last four years and haven’t needed to at all!

magicstar1 · 27/10/2020 13:46

I bought a gorgeous pair of cherry red 1460s three years ago. Each time I’ve worn them I ended up with ripped heels. They’re sitting at the end of the bed laughing at me.

I’ll try some of the tips here...fingers crossed!

I'm still wearing in my 101's that I bought in Feb - but to be fair I haven't walked anywhere since the end of March! They only hurt at the bottom the laces where it feels like there's a fold of leather. 2 pairs of socks does help. So annoying. I do love them!

Quick update for anyone struggling with their DM’s - you need Timpson’s stretching spray in your life. Sprayed mine twice, each time put 2 thick pairs of socks on and wore for half hour around the house. Wore them today for 2 hours and they were super comfortable and no problem to pull on!

I have the fur lined lace up boots and they are honestly the best things I’ve ever bought and so snug and warm. They’ve never hurt my feet, which I was surprised at.

heartshapedfaces · 31/10/2020 23:21

I’ve had mine for 11 years and still haven’t managed to break them in. Every winter I put them on and remember the agony
