When did fabric conditioners become so strong smelling?

I only use a small amount and yet it's still really strong to the point where I've realised you rarely smell perfume or aftershave off people
Is it just me or do people like them?
Also looking for recommendations for a nice smelling one

For the lovers:

I have discovered Lenor Orchid Gold after buying a duvet set on eBay, DD falling in love with the smell and a kind seller willing to pass on the info!

Smells nice and strong for aaaaaages.

Fusion we stayed in a b and b in Torquay a few years back and their bed linen was amazing, so soft and though worn, was beautifully scented. I wrote to the proprietor after to ask for her brand of laundry detergent. It was stuff I couldn't get locally (our biggest supermarket was a Tuffins, you know what I'm saying) so that was that.

Well that was a crap anecdote, OP, no help at all.

I understand that you can buy Spanish ones that are lovely?

@justaweeone

I've stopped using it, wondered why clothes almost started to feel funny and then read that fabric softener has animal fat in it ( tallow)
That’s why I use the M&S one. Lovely smell, no animal testing and vegan friendly.

Fairy fabric conditioner is always nice, not too strong.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/10/2020 15:25

@Maskedcrusader

This again? We had one of these last week. We established the smell is overwhelming, vile, makes people nauseous, heave, unable to breath, cant be in the same office, car, building, city, within 500 miles of anyone that's used it. Interestingly we have a now all discovered a company called Smol. It sells fabric softener that smells like angels tears not like the stuff the peasants use.
Grin

You forgot how that it's a big con designed to part stupid people from their money as it's a totally unnecessary product.

We use Fairy or supermarket own brand version (DP sensitive skin), because it does seem to improve how clothes look and feel, but I generally only use a tiny bit so the bottle lasts for months and hence this disgusting habit of mine costs us about a fiver a year if that.

Thanks @FusionChefGeoff, @StanfordPines and @Chicchicchicchiclana

I use Ecover Zero because I am not good with fragrances. You could also try using half fabric conditioner, half vinegar as that might reduce the fragrance a bit but still keep enough?

Sheknowsaboutme · 26/10/2020 15:31

One if my running friends smells of her detergent. Its like she’s using the stuff as perfume. Its nice but running behind her bothers me.

foxyroxyyy · 26/10/2020 16:38

Disgusting stuff. Have been given two bags of baby clothes which I washed and dried and put on my baby... took me two days to work out why she smelt 'different'. Have rewashed them all FIVE times now and they still reek of the stuff.

Revolting.
