Eating solo for the next two nights - what should I have?

I usually cook for 5 people every night and I've forgotten how to do this! DH is taking the DC to see his parents and I get to stay home (I KNOW!)

I need to go to the shops today as he's taking the car. What should I get? What did I used to eat when it was just me? Can't afford take-away unfortunately.

I never get the house to myself either! And admittedly there were 5 builders here with me today.

Want to hear something funny? DH's parting line to me as he left this morning: "Are you sure you won't be bored?" Confused

Please tell me your pipes and hot water have been fixed.

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 26/10/2020 18:56

No. Unfortunately the plumber can't come until tomorrow morning so no heating or hot water until then.
I have postponed my baked camembert until tomorrow evening as I MUST be able to eat that in front of the tv, rather than in the kitchen with a fan heater pointing at my face.

OK! I'm back in the game!

I have hot water and heating and have just had the most amazing lunch of leftover kung pao chicken from the freezer, noodles and hoisin duck spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce.

Ohhhh that sounds good!

Have you had a long, leisurely hot bath with some wine and chocolates and a good book? Otherwise that’s a perfectly good way to spend part of an afternoon.......Wine

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 27/10/2020 16:10

Hmmmm, well our bathroom is in a bit of a state from builders and plumbers traipsing around in there today. And I'm not wasting time cleaning! I think the sofa will have to suffice but that's ok. I have been meticulously planning my camembert-fest and have decided to go for This Is Us for my binge-watch this evening.

Dine in for £12 from M & S

BrowncoatWaffles · 27/10/2020 17:02

I’m so jealous! DH has just announced he might be going out on Thursday night. If this confirms I’m literally going Toruń down to the shop for a Camembert off the back of this thread!

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 27/10/2020 17:04

I keep wondering if it's nearly time for dinner yet 😂

It’s definitely wine time....😋😋

OhioOhioOhio · 27/10/2020 19:03

I'm so excited and jealous that you get to watch This Is Us.

ThatScottishGirl · 27/10/2020 19:05

I’d have takeaway both nights I’m ashamed to admit

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/10/2020 19:14

Make the most of tonight op, savour every minute and make sure that your DH plans a repeat trip as soon as they get back!

I usually get a week to myself every summer when everyone else is off at an activity camp (yes, DH too!). I treat myself to all sorts of things as soon as they all leave and make sure that I go out with friends for a couple of nights too. I can honestly say that this has been the thing that I was most upset about missing during the first lockdown! DH has been at home since mid-March and I so miss having time and space on my days off - OK I usually clean and cook but I do it by myself, with my tunes playing and singing happily at whatever volume I choose!

That time alone is so precious. Make sure you have some more planned.

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 27/10/2020 19:35

I'm in actual heaven.

Ohhhhh yes, yes you are.

Enjoy!!

MaidofKent78 · 27/10/2020 19:41

I'm so jealous! Due to COVID, my husband won't be making his 'annual pre-Christmas trip to ILs in Europe with DS' trip. Last year I had 5 days to myself. 5 DAYS!!!

ineedaholidaynow · 27/10/2020 19:51

If DH is away DS and I always have chicken Kiev, I'm not sure why we only have it then as DH likes chicken Kiev too! Probably because it comes in a pack of two. If I am on my own I might treat myself to a steak (either beef or lamb) and many snacks!

userxx · 27/10/2020 20:09

What time do you want me ?

On a slightly separate note, I'm feeling rather chuffed with myself for having done all of my 'work' work already, and so I have most of tomorrow 'at leisure' until the others get back. I think I might get my acrylic paints out to play around with!
Until then, I'm off to watch episode 3...I cant believe it's only 8:30! The evening is so long when you don't have a zillion people to coerce into bed!

Go to your local co op. Walk to the freezers. Remove a box of frozen halloumi fries.
Walk to the wine fridge area. Select a bottle of their Soave.
Purchase both
Go home, heat up the fries and wash them down with wine.
You. Are. Welcome.

How have you made the Camembert look so professional? Need tips as think I'll do this for Xmas day starter.

Cut a cross in it, sprinkle of thyme, sprinkle of chilli flakes, sprinke of olive oil, 20 min in the oven.
