What do you do that you know is stupid?

For me, I automatically tend to think that people with more money have less problems .... and live an easier life.

I know that's not true, but due to childhood beliefs default to thinking those with money automatically have it easier.

What do you do, that you know is stupid?

@Pyewhacket

Perhaps I’m missing something here but why would I knowingly do anything stupid?. Sure , I make mistakes , everybody does but I generally use my common sense and which is my idiot prevention.
Aye, right. You don't sound smug whatsoever.
lazarusb · 25/10/2020 14:14

I worry if I see one magpie. I say the little rhyme. I know it's daft and it's the only thing I'm superstitious about. I can genuinely feel myself getting tense and then spend minutes desperately looking for a second one!

KiposWonderbeasts · 25/10/2020 14:16
  • Eat carbs and cheese all the time
  • Drink far too much
  • Not exercise
  • Not fit a breathalyser to my Amazon account (aka One Click While Under The Influence)
  • Ignore the mess until it’s so bad I want to burn the house down or run away
  • Grow tomatoes when I know I will forget to feed/water them by early August. But I do it every damned year
  • Leave buying school uniform to the last possible moment each year and then not find things in their sizes
  • Think we’ve definitely got room for a few more hens. No! Seven eggs a day is already too many. Stop it.

I do this too. If I can't see the second one almost immediately, I salute the lone magpie and mutter under my breath "good morning Mr Magpie, and how are all your children?"

As if that's really going to make a difference to anything ....

Chicchicchicchiclana · 25/10/2020 19:18

Completely agree about the magpies!

Kenworthington · 25/10/2020 19:27

Smoke
Spend too much money on things I don’t need. Usually on credit. It massively Ramps up when my mental health is bad.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 25/10/2020 19:35

Drink wine and go to bed too late.

Acornsgalore · 25/10/2020 19:54

It wasn't often, but when I went out for an evening pre-Covid, instead of going straight to bed afterwards, I used to come home and stay up late watching rubbish TV "having the evening I missed". Ridiculous and I used to regret it every time.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 25/10/2020 20:57

I cured myself of the magpie problem - if I see one alone, I remember it and then the next time I see one on it’s own I mentally pair them up.

Absolutely daft I know, but in my head it works, the anxiety eases.

Anordinarymum · 26/10/2020 03:03

I am a bit OCD and like to count. I can't help it. I count everything from seconds to traffic lights changing to how many strokes I can do in a length in swimming or how many seconds I can do a length in, or how many minutes I can do a journey in my car counting the seconds out loud.. It's a hard load to bear but I am compelled :)

When I peg the washing out, instead of taking the peg bag and the basket out to the line like normal people do, I sort the washing out in the kitchen, and then count how many pegs I need and do it in batches. It takes bloody ages but I have a system, which involves not having enough room in my hands for the pegs and clipping them onto my clothes.
Fecking idiot.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 26/10/2020 03:07

Want my ex back SadHmm

HamHock · 26/10/2020 03:19

Eat loads of chocolate. I know it makes me feel worse but I love it. I can eat so much of it.

I genuinely think I’m afflicted.

HamHock · 26/10/2020 03:19

*addicted

anonymoooose · 24/01/2022 11:45

@MidnightFlit oh my gosh! Me too!! I've been playing Two Dots since 2014. I play it any free second I can 🤣🤣🤣🤣

anonymoooose · 24/01/2022 11:46

Seem quite a few here that resonate.
Mainly - eating too much sugar then moan and get depressed that my belly has grown even bigger
Don't exercise
Don't budget properly
Oversleep and then late for school run 🤦🏽‍♀️

BlackeyedSusan · 24/01/2022 12:02

@everythingisginandroses

I stay up too late and don't get enough sleep, knowing I will feel terrible the next day. It is stupid.
Guilty as charged
MrsPear · 24/01/2022 12:30

Smoke

Hangthetowels · 24/01/2022 12:49

Eat way too many crisps

SecretWitch · 24/01/2022 12:53

Eat well during the week and then binge junk on the weekends

Spend too much time on MN and Reddit

ThreeRingCircus · 24/01/2022 13:11

Smoking which is really bloody stupid as I can go weeks and weeks without doing it so I know I'm not properly addicted but then something stressful will happen, I'll buy a packet then smoke them all over a week or so and then not do it for weeks until the next time. It's ridiculous and I really must stop.

Overeat. I know I feel so much better when I eat healthy food and do some exercise. I feel great when I'm in a healthier routine but I just love junk food and am lazy, a horrible combination!

Fancy my gay friend a little bit. It's ridiculous, he is a gay man and I'm a straight woman and we're both happily married with two children each and yet he's really fun to flirt with. I'm sure it's fun because he's "safe" as nothing will ever, ever happen. I'm a lost cause!

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/01/2022 13:13

I always check the oven is off before I go to work in the morning. I never use the oven in the morning…

SheWentWest · 24/01/2022 13:20

Salute single magpies

Happylittlethoughts · 24/01/2022 14:02

Eat sugar
Bite the inside of my cheek
Gnaw the skin on my fingers

LuckyAmy1986 · 24/01/2022 14:07

I do this really annoying thing where I will for example see something on the stairs that needs to go, and I am going up anyway for another reason, and yet I STILL leave the thing there on the stairs thinking 'I'll do that later'' WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

MooseBreath · 24/01/2022 15:03

I binge eat carbs and crisps. If I didn't, I would likely be a good 20lbs lighter and look a million times better. Wouldn't even have to change what I ate, just how much.
