I love the McDonalds' advert with the teenager and his first car.

I love it too!!

Twospaniels · 23/10/2020 18:41

A work colleagues son passed his test and borrowed his mum’s car. Said he was picking up his friend and going to McDonalds.
He was out for hours and she was worried.
Transpired that he drove 80 miles up the motorway to get his friend, got McDonalds up there, drove back and missed the split of the A1 M1 and took the wrong one and ended up nearly at London!
😂

I love it too. In these parts it's not unheard of for parents to buy a new car for their child's 17th birthday, but I gave my car to my son and got a new one myself. Grin It's not the car he would have chosen but it's freedom and possibility and it gets him to work/McDonalds and back.

Covid has put paid to any grand adventures with his mates though. Angry

Sentiment is OK, but I would never buy fast food for a loved one unless they asked.

I guess he knows what his Mum likes from McDonalds and he was going there anyway. I would never say no to a surprise Millionaire Latte from there. Grin

Me too! So simple yet so meaningful. Brings a lump to my throat!

Plannersareus · 23/10/2020 19:24

I hate it, he even uses his Mums spare cash to buy the food for her, plus it would be stone cold by the time he got back!

Surely she left the cash in there for him. If she didn't want him to have the cash she should have taken it out before giving him the car. Also it depends how far they live from McDonalds as to the temperature of the food, surely?
AllGongNoDinner · 23/10/2020 19:31

I love this advert!!

Plannersareus · 23/10/2020 19:31

McDonald's food is barely warm at the best of times, he then sat in the car and ate his fries. Fair point about the cash, but I bet she just forgot.

MissMacaroni · 23/10/2020 19:32

Everyone knows you eat your food and then go back through the drive through to get the other person's order!

I'm a very infrequent McDonald's customer but I do like the advert.

MisiSam · 23/10/2020 19:36

I love it too! And the westlife song, that is definitely something my mum would have blasting if she had a car. Its a clever advert.

Plannersareus · 23/10/2020 19:38

Looking at the amount of cash he spent this is not obvious! Plus she didn't order it, I bet he got it all at once and she was just surprised he even thought about her.

SarahAndQuack · 23/10/2020 20:34

Surprised by this thread. I thought it was so patronising/out of touch! Who on earth is going to tease a teenager for driving his mum's car? Confused

I sort of suspect that the super-rich kids who look down on anyone who doesn't get a brand new car for passing their test, probably don't give a fuck about McDonalds.

kittensarecute · 23/10/2020 20:45

Aww I like the advert, I think it's quite sweet. Plus the lad looks a bit like my brother.

Cooltalkin · 23/10/2020 21:15

Awe I love it
The expression on her face at the end when she is so proud of him and pleased with her gift , and does that little smile

anothergloriusmorning · 23/10/2020 21:53

I think it's really sweet, makes me feel a bit emotional!

ChillerKillerCroissant · 23/10/2020 22:03

I've just looked the ad up on YouTube after reading this thread, I like it.
