Is FM (perfumes) a MLM?

Got a friend who has been selling perfumes since the beginning of the year. She now runs a 'team' of 170 from home and makes a thousand pounds a month and has qualified for car payments today (I'm not sure what that actually means).

I've just had a look at her perfume Instagram, it seems that Stacey Solomon uses them apparently, and they're quite pricey (I think they're duplicates of well known fragrances without actually saying that's what they are) and I'm confused. I assumed it was a MLM scheme due to the team element but nothing she's posted looks like the standard kind of content

Has she been sucked in? Is FM perfumes one I haven't heard of?

Yep its an mlm. One that everyone seems to be doing on my Facebook as well. Lots of order going in blah blah blah.

Yes, it's an MLM.

Goodness knows what "qualified for car payments" means. Either they hired one for the day, or they're buying it on some kind of credit thing. Let's put it this way: if they were making as much money as they insinuated, they would've just bought a car outright.

Yep. My Facebook is full of it.

Usually the car thing is that the company takes a lease out in the reps name. Payment comes out of the reps ‘wages’ and they then need to sell enough each month to make the repayments.

Wow, that's horrible. Do people find themselves in situations where they can no longer pay it? Does it affect their credit rating?

It's usually a white Mercedes!

Mumsnet full of MLM scheme questions today , including the post that was pulled down 2 days ago.

I know someone who started doing it in mid-summer. I hid her fb page because it was incessant, constant mentions every day. Just had a look, and wouldn't you know it - not a single mention for weeks. So I'm guessing it didn't turn out all that great for her.

I’ve seen a fair few Instamums have started doing this. And because they’ve got quite a following, all their huns want to buy from them or be part of their team.

So now they think they’re successful businesswomen 🙄

LimpLettice · 23/10/2020 16:30

Yes, it is, and quite a pushy one. I lost a good friend to to it but fortunately she's out the other side now. It took a year and quite a lot of cash though. I saw today on Insta that another friend, an ex colleague this time, has been sucked in but she knows how I feel about MLM so hoping to avoid the hassle!

hellisotherpeopleandhorlicks · 23/10/2020 17:24

Oh that's a shame
It actually seemed legit from her Instagram so she's obviously doing a good job at portraying it as a good business option. I was a bit 😱 at the team of 170.
I hope she's not getting tied into a car on credit :-/
