Has anyone flown recently? What was it like?

I have to travel abroad to be with my family because my father is dying. I've booked transatlantic flights to USA. Has anyone done that recently? What was it like? Any tips?

Please note this is not an AIBU. I know flying to the USA is crazy right now, but there is no best option for me.

Take a change of mask in case your first one get gets manky. Sorry about your dad, I hope you get to see him. Take a pen too to fill in forms.

I fly on European routes. Airports are definitely quieter. Masks on airports and on board (food & drink is still served), rest is pretty much the same. Planes are as full as they were before the pandemic.

Im sorry about your Dad.
I’m cabin crew (Virgin) so have been on several transatlantic flights recently. Our flights to US are empty, 30 passengers max.
You get a pack on your seat with masks ( compulsory to wear unless eating/drinking) hand gels and surface wipes in.
The services onboard are reduced greatly to reduce interactions between us all, a box of food at the beginning and end of the flight. We do come round every hour with water and juice though. So just make sure you pack plenty snacks.

I am in Barbados at the moment. We flew here with BA on Wednesday. Everything felt very calm, safe and organised both at Gatwick and Bridgetown - boarding and disembarking was done five rows at a time. Everyone wore masks except when eating and drinking. Food was prepackaged in disposable boxes but surprisingly nice! Overall it was good experience and I'm very pleased we took the risk and did it.

Sorry about your dad. I flew transatlantic recently. Flight was very quiet, maybe 30 people on the whole plane. 5 of us including DD and I in business class. Crew mostly stayed at the front of the plane in front of the cockpit. Our section had use of 2 loos behind so realistically was sharing facilities with 2-3 people. Still got the amenity kit, blankets etc. I think there was also a pack that included a mask but they get manky quickly so pack plenty as they are compulsory. Food was like a lunchbox and utterly disgusting so I’d recommend bringing your own. Also, on the US side airport lounges and most shops were closed so don’t count on being able to buy anything at the airport either. Water bottles were given out at regular times and alcoholic/soft drinks were still served, just not poured by crew.

I went to Greece last month. It was exactly the same apart from everyone wearing masks.
