ca125 Test - slightly raised any postive stories?

I have a slightly raised ca125 test - 34 is the cut off mine is 39, any positive stories?

I do have PCOS. Doctor said she is not worries but has asked for a scan . Would that test specifically cover ovairan cancer or could it be raised because of cancer elsewhere?

I believe it can cover anywhere, assuming they did the test via blood test. I was tested for it once when I had a large ovarian cyst.

[Flowers] for you. Sorry you're going through this.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 22/10/2020 09:20

is it a general cancer test then or just specific to that area?

Thank you its such a worry but the doc also reassured me she said - if it was 200 then straight to gyne...

I had a similar raised result and it was absolutely fine, it just picks up any type of inflammation so even if you're on your period it could be raised. I had a bit of endomteriosis so possibly could have been that.

legodisasterzone · 22/10/2020 19:24

I had the same kind of reading, also have PCOS
I had some new cysts and otherwise all was fine. I know it’s worrying xx

Thank you!

CA125 can be raised for all sorts of reasons, ovulation, fibroids etc, I can't remember if PCOS is one of them. Some Dr's don't recommended testing CA125 in pre-menopausal patients for that exact reason. I really wouldn't worry unduly, she is sending you for a scan and if there is anything to worry about it will be picked up with that. But you will more than likely be just fine.

bitheby · 22/10/2020 19:40

Mine was right on the cut off. They said it was likely to be because of the timing in my cycle. Retested and it was fine. I think it's more of an issue if it's in the hundreds. A few over isn't the same cause for concern.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 22/10/2020 19:53

Another reason I feel nervous, I remember when I had a lump down below, it took weeks and week for a scan it took about 9 weeks in the end after cancellations... It was the most awful 9 week s of waiting!

Over work I had pre menopause bloods done and they were fine

Please try not to worry unduly op. I have endo and twice mine has been much, much higher than that and it's been down to ovarian cysts both times. Checked with an mri, ultra sound and then looked at by an oncology specialist. But agree the wait is the worst thing.

Bearfrills · 22/10/2020 20:36

I had this a year ago, exact same levels as yours, and got myself into a right flap about it. When I went for the scan everything was fine but it picked up that I had gallstones. GP referred me to the surgeon and he explained that the CA125 test is non-specific and can be affected by all sorts of benign conditions, including normal ovulation. My GP repeated the test a few times and it stayed slightly elevated, had my gallbladder out and my levels are now normal so we think inflammation from my gallbladder was affecting the blood test.

Bearfrills · 22/10/2020 20:38

The surgeon also told me that for all there is a 'normal' range for the blood test results and anything outside that range should be checked out, some people do sit slightly outside of that range and it's just their own individual normal range.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 22/10/2020 21:25

Bear frills that's interesting thank you!
I guess alcohol exasperates gall stones?

I've been through this a couple of years ago. Had a blood test as was feeling very tired. CA125 came back at 115. GP organised urgent appointment at hospital.... scans, biopsy, another scan. All clear. More blood tests... still raised. Told I obviously have a higher than usual level as there's nothing wrong.
Had a blood test this year and it's still raised.

Pinkstars2501 · 22/10/2020 21:44

Mine came back raised, 54. I have stage 3 endometriosis so that's why.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 23/10/2020 07:47

Thank you Flowers

It's sore sometimes on one side, sometimes itchy but intermittent and this is why I went to the doctor.

Sorry! I realise that this was posted a while ago

@TheHouseonHauntedHill did you get your scan yet? Would you let me know what they did at your appointment? Did they give you any answers at the appointment or is it another waiting game?

I had an early miscarriage a couple weeks ago and the gp did a range of bloods. My ca125 came back 37 because of this and a history of general pelvic pain and he's referred me on for an urgent scan within the next 2 weeks. I've really worried myself now and over the past few weeks I'm getting sick of doctors telling me I get need to wait it out
