WFH? Tell me what you do in your lunch break

...If you get one of course! I'm trying to make a concerted effort to step away from my laptop and have a proper break, rather than working through with a sandwich. So I'm interested to hear what others do to take a proper break from work, ready to start the afternoon fresh. Here are some of the things I do:

Sit in my bedroom chair with my kindle
Go for a half hour walk
Fit in a swim at the gym (need a long lunch break for this)

Feel slightly guilty that I don't sit with my husband and enjoy lunch together but somehow feel like a need a break from 'people' if I've been on video calls all morning - am I alone in this?

I have recently started to go for a walk in the local park and noticed a big change in feeling more positive. Sometimes sit and watch a programme on catch up while I eat, or today I have come to a noodle place for lunch before an actual in-person meeting!

I try to do a 35-40 min workout 3 times a week. Similar to a pp, the intensity of the workout depends on the morning I’ve had. I love cardio combat on a frustrating day.

I don’t do housework. I know my partner wouldn’t, if he was here, so why should ISmile

I have 1yo here with me while WFH so I always take the hour, then just log back on in the evening when hes in bed if I need to (at least 3 nights a week) .

I use my lunch hour to feed 1yo, feed myself, do a quick tidy up and sweep up the floor, clean out the stove and bring in coal ready for the evening, sit away from the desk with 1yo.

(I'm hoping he'll have a long nap when I go back after lunch to see me through the afternoon.)

O having read PP after posting, I should say that my dp works away from home Monday to Friday, so if I dont do those few bits of housework during the day I'd have to do them in the evening along with everything else before logging back onto work when the DC are in bed.

CaptainCarp · 21/10/2020 13:45

I'm not working from home anymore (unfortunately) but I used to pop to the bakery, pick up my click & collect shopping or make/prep tea.

It was great as I didn't have to go anywhere in the evening so was often going for a walk or run then with DP.

BrowncoatWaffles · 21/10/2020 13:53

Either walk in the fresh air or - if it's pissing it down - ride the exercise bike for an hour while watching Netflix.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 21/10/2020 13:56

Housework and meal prep ! I've wfh for 5 years

RedskyAtnight · 21/10/2020 13:56

Go for a walk. I've realised that when clocks go back there is otherwise a very real chance that I will never get out of the house in daylight hours during Monday - Friday.

Serendipity79 · 21/10/2020 13:57

Housework :( single parent so I don't have anyone aside from the kids to share it with!

MrsFogi · 21/10/2020 13:58

I am taking a two hour lunch break (and starting earlier and finishing later) in order to play tennis, have lunch in the kitchen and have a 15 minute power nap. I love it!

Sarahplane · 21/10/2020 13:58

make lunch, do dishwasher or put washing on and eat usually.

HoneyBee03 · 21/10/2020 15:22

Our office is all back to normal now, but when I was working from home I would make myself a nice lunch and eat it while watching the tv. I'd also put the hoover round, do the dishwasher or stick some washing on. I'd aim for a mix of relaxing and productivity!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/10/2020 15:23

Usually eat a sandwich and watch Friends.

Now my lunchbreak is spent working with dc2 and his schoolwork (whole class are self isolating)

SimonJT · 21/10/2020 15:39

When I was at the office I would either go for a run (we have showers at work) or meet my partner for lunch.

Now I’m WFH I save my lunch break so I can do the school run.

AuntieDolly · 21/10/2020 15:40

I watch 'Decimated' on the tele. Feel such a failure now!

MitziK · 21/10/2020 15:43

As of the day I've had today, anything other than dealing with angry people over the phone (it's going to DND tomorrow) or by email (they can wait until I'm back from the kitchen).

Lyricallie · 21/10/2020 17:30

My DP and I actually work together (although in different teams) so we have setup our dining room table as our new open plan office.

We usually have our lunch about 12 and watch the Scottish update. Cook some lunch. Empty the dishwasher and maybe watch an episode of something on Netflix.
Yesterday we went to Lidl. It's was so well stocked in the middle of the day compared to the evening! Grin
