So many questions!

Are they hot?

Are they worth it?

How do you wash them?

If you have one would you recommend it?

Which one do you have?

Debating whether to put it on my Xmas list Confused

Warm enough but not roasting. I hate being hot but just the blanket is perfect. Summer and now.

One of the best things I’ve ever bought.
DS13 loves his also.

Have cover on it so no real need to wash the actual blanket?

💯 yes. I’m a poor sleeper and it helps loads

Bought this one www.amazon.co.uk/jaymag-Weighted-Blanket-Calming-150x200cm/dp/B083M9FXDV/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&psc=1&keywords=weighted%2Bblanket&th=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFDSkdTV05HVUlYRkMmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA3MzY3MDAzNkNZVldFOUNYUTlVJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAzMzQ0MzQyMURVSEwzNzU4S1U3JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1603213902&sr=8-2-spons

They are great. Not hot. Get one with a removable cover. Trawl the reviews before you buy.

LadyCatStark · 20/10/2020 18:36
  1. They don’t add much warmth, we use ours over our duvets.
  1. Best thing I’ve ever bought, note above I said ‘we use ours’ I’ve now had to buy one for DH and one for DS 😂
  1. If you get a 6kg one it can go in the washing machine, but see above about using them on top of our duvets to keep them cleaner.
  1. Yes I would
  1. Mine is from Online Home Shop, DS and DH’s are from Amazon but I can’t remember the brands.

Get it on your Christmas list, you won’t be disappointed.

I'm wondering, if you sleep in a double bed alone, do you go for a double one or would that be too heavy?

SausageRoll2020 · 20/10/2020 18:39

You can get different levels of warmth etc

Eg, there are cooling ones for people who are hot, warmer ones for the naturally chilly etc. They have different materials for the covers etc. The one I bought was from Remy and they had a useful online guide to help you choose the right one.

Agree with the comments above to read the reviews and get one with a removable cover. Also helps if you know the rough weight of the person you are purchasing for as you want to get one that is around 10% of their body weight.

timothytoes · 20/10/2020 19:47

Thanks guys I think I might give one a go, they sound awesome.

"warmer ones for the naturally chilly etc"

Good. I'd want a warmer one. Defeats the whole point of a duvet if you have to have it on top of a duvet in winter. I don't want to go back to the time when making the bed was complicated.

goisey · 20/10/2020 20:08

I want one of these because I don't sleep well....but I'm worried I'll get too dependant on it and need it when travelling or staying over night somewhere (which I did a couple/few times a month before Covid).
I mean, how on earth do you pack one in your luggage?!

Took · 20/10/2020 20:22

Mine hurts. Makes my hips ache a LOT. I have the right weight one. Googling showed others have similar problems. Just to let you know so you can make an informed choice.

My Ds now uses it and loves it and has no problems.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2020 20:35

Bought a pair for my wriggly, insomniac DCs last week and so far so good. They like them on their lower halves combined with their existing duvets.

SendHelp30 · 20/10/2020 20:43

My son has autism and we recently bought him a 2kg one as he’s only young. It’s been fantastic and would really recommend. He drags it round everywhere with him now and it’s definitely making an improvement to his sleep. His is very warm.

Sausagis · 20/10/2020 20:50

My daughter has one (with a removable/washable cover) and loves it.

I bought myself the Brentfords one someone posted above, in a double. I'm not getting on with it at all. It's the right amount of extra warmth but I hate the extra weight. It also doesn't have a cover but I have it on top of a duvet so it won't really get dirty .

Fancyateapottea · 20/10/2020 21:01

I have a mela one and I absolutely love it. It is incredibly soft and has a removable cover so is easily washed. I have a king size which is a good size for just me, it is not bulky so it’s easy to fit round me and have on the sofa. The weight is lovely. It just feels like I’ve found the perfect blanket and now all other blankets seem pathetically light!

Strokethefurrywall · 20/10/2020 21:05

Got one for DS1 to help with his anxiety and sleep issues and it's brilliant.

We got the bamboo one as we live in Caribbean and he's not too hot under it.
