Waterproof shoes

I have fallen into a pattern of
-wear holes in shoes/shoes start letting water in
-make a distress purchase of something I vaguely like in my size (hate shopping and don't live or work near shoe shops)

• repeat a few months later.

I buy sturdy trainers or ankle boots, not flimsy 'girly' shoes but am sick of spending £30-40 just to get wet feet a few months later. I'm not hiking or anything, and don't want rigid walking boots, I just do lots of school runs/taking kids to playpark or similar. I'm thinking of looking on eBay for nearly new instead, can anyone recommend some brands that might be reliably waterproof?? Please save me from the painful experience of shoe shopping!!

Ideally flat ankle boots. Any advice welcome.
