Pick up after your dog sign

Worth it on private property?

We have a gravelled parking space at the front of our property but no car. I went to weed it yesterday and discovered three small dog poos Angry

We're on a busy road, so could be one of many people.

Is a sign effective or should we jump straight to CCTV?

OP posts:

I have foxes who do some whoppers just outside my gate. Their poos are huge considering.

TheAugury · 20/10/2020 10:19

It's most probably foxes not dogs, dogs prefer grass foxes prefer gravel. Put up a sign by all means but, in general, wild life can't read, cats don't care and the few irresponsible dog owners won't care.

My dog enjoys shitting on gravel
The gravel is mine and I clean it up

OP, think about how you've reacted to helpful comments here and then think about how people will react to your helpful sign Grin

I’ll bring my dog round. If he rolls in it, it’s definitely fox poo. If he eats it, it’s cat poo. If he ignores it, it’s dog poo 😂
Hope this helps.

I have three cats and a dog. I'm also a dog walker. All three of my cats (including the kitten) do bigger poos than some of the dogs I walk Grin

I suspect it's cat or fox poo. But I also suspect you'll just continue to be rude to anyone who dares suggest you might be wrong Wink

Why don’t you try a sign and see if it helps?

GloGirl · 21/10/2020 07:30

Cats, dogs or fox

Go shit on someone elses rocks.

But yes, very unlikely to be a dog - they really hate gravel.

Sounds about right!

@MinnieMountain

I didn't ask "what poo is it?", I asked if a sign would be any use.
Well people are pointing out the obvious. Dogs don't really like pooing on gravel, so it's probably cats & cats can't read...

People who have dogs they don't clean up after aren't going to do it just because you put a sign up.

So, to be very clear NO a sign isn't going to help.

I'd be wary. There's a certain type of dickhead that would regard a sign saying 'No dogs allowed on this property' as a magnet to make the OP's drive their dogs' new toileting spot.

The OP could try putting something citrus-smelling on her drive - dogs hate the smell of citrus and they won't poo where they don't feel comfortable.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/10/2020 07:53

If it is a cat or a fox they won't read the sign anyway.

A cat would ignore it if it felt like it, even it could read (most can't)

vanillandhoney · 21/10/2020 08:06

The problem with a sign is that as soon as one dog pees on it, the smell will attract all dogs to pee on it.

A bit like a lamppost Grin

Tadpolesandfroglets · 21/10/2020 08:14

Put up a sign, see if it works. If not go for CCTV. We have dogs that regularly shit on our driveway. In my experience they don’t care where they shit. Fox poo absolutely stinks so you would definitely know the difference.

maggienolia · 21/10/2020 08:30

Doubt a sign would do much good TBH based on what happens round here. How about an ultrasonic scarer?

Chap near us rings any rogue poos with pink spray paint. And puts a little sign by it.
It looks like the Mysterons have landed on a bad day.

VenusClapTrap · 21/10/2020 08:36

It’s bollocks that dogs don’t poo on gravel. I have a gravel drive and they poo on the end of it all the time. I see them doing it, from my garden, then most of the time I see the owners picking it up.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/10/2020 09:12

@VenusClapTrap

You may find that the 'dog poo pick up' is just a ploy to get free gravel.

A standard dog poo can collect 4 or 5 pieces of gravel each 'go'. If someone brings her dog out three times a day, over say 12 months they will have more than enough gravel for drainage in a window flower box. Keep your eye out for any bald patches in your drive.

VenusClapTrap · 21/10/2020 09:37

If they’re that desperate they can have it.
