Bank transfer. Just feels so odd!

To be handing out my account number and sort code to a random randomer on a selling site. Google says it's safe. Is it?
I don't do PayPal.

No buyer protection using a bank transfer but yes a sort code and account number would be on a cheque if you used that. They can't do much with it

Generally there wouldn’t be a problem. HOWEVER. Jeremy Clarkson once posted his bank account and sort code numbers to prove to someone that nothing untoward could happen and someone proved him wrong by setting up a direct debit to a charity using just that information to the tune of a few hundred quid a month. So it’s possible, but unlikely.
