What to get for son to do homework on?

I wasn't sure where to put this, hope it's okay here?
I'm wondering what would be best for my son to do his homework on? He started reception in September, and with the situation all homework is sent out on google classroom, and has to be submitted on there as well, which obviously I understand completely.
And occasionally would be used for zoom )we had parents evening on zoom last week).
Depending on what he has to do we either do it on there, or do it, take pictures, then upload them, as the teacher said we should. We need to be able to take pictures. And not sure if we would need a keyboard and or pen if it was a tablet? Finally we would need to be able to connect it to a printer. I have a hp printer that is wireless and has Bluetooth.
What would be best? We can't really afford to spend too much at the moment. We just need something that will do what we need for school purposes, nothing else. Thanks

Meant to add neither my husband or I have anything he could use. My husband has an iPad but it's an old model and doesn't support the latest updates and therefore we can't use the apps we need on it.
We both have laptops and I also have a notebook but again all are old, both mine are from 2013, and my husbands laptop is even older. So again not really up to date enough to be used.

I got my kids a 14" Chromebook and an 11" laptop to do their schoolwork over lockdown using Google Classroom, Zoom etc. I got them different ones as I wasn't sure the Chromebook would do everything but there was a limited choice of what was available and a 14" laptop was out of the price bracket I wanted. I can honestly say that the Chromebook is better. It does everything is they need it to do and the screen size is better.

I would recommend looking at the Amazon Fire 10". They are brilliant, I have one as does my husband, they take great pictures and you can wirelessly connect them to your printer.

I also just saw this one on Amazon and I think it may fit your needs perfectly.

Dd has a Chromebook for school work. She's in year 10 and has had it since year 7 and has no issues with it or found anything she can't do with it. I like that it's lightweight, has a long battery life, is fast to start up and doesn't overheat if she accidentally leaves it on her bed.

At his age he shouldn't be expected to do homework, and the school should realise that not everyone can afford to buy extra equipment especially for it.

He’s in reception I wouldn’t be
Buying him anything. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t do his homework in reception- I thought you were going to say year 7!!!

Not a very green option but we found that printing work from Google classroom worked really well for dd1 (yr4) during lockdown. I put the app on my phone and could take a photo & upload it back.
I think 5 is too young for doing online work apart from the odd purple mash type thing. Reading & writing are such fundamentals that need to be mastered first & are easier offline - apart from Oxford Owl which is fantastic!
