I don't personally have any real insights into this but have heard it mentioned on here that for todays adults the best, most prosperous and peaceful years of our life times are behind us now. Pandemics, climate change, nationalisim, creeping totalitarianisim to name a few issues seem to be upending our previously fairly stable part of the world. It feels like any one of those issues would be bad enough but when they converge at one time it feels unnerving and as if nothing could be ruled as possible in the future.

I obviously hope it would never be true but do you think we could see war in the west again in the next 20 years say?

Note: I'm not implying that war in other parts of the world is ok by me if it doesn't affect me and i know that war rages around the globe and it makes me sick.

We will need the Royal Navy to be assertive in protecting our fishing grounds and fleet, yes.

I don't see any possibility right now; but I guess it is very likely at some stage. Between us English, French and Germans we really have an aggressive warlike history. With the exception of Northern Ireland though, we recently kept our military adventures away from home. We've been active in the Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. But who knows ... it seems part of our nature ...

I think you’re on the wrong track. It’s not about tanks these days in Europe. The war is fought electronically. Social and economic destruction not physical. Cyber war.

Might as well top myself now then.

Russian agents did not go to Salisbury Plain to look at tanks. They went to poison a political opponent of Putin.

That is a potential flash point that worries me. I don’t think full scale war will erupt over the fish, but Johnson is feeding lies and yet more of the anti-EU rhetoric into the willing ears of the public. It’s already produced Brexit: just what else does he want it to produce?

It’s Europe that bore the brunt of the World wars, not Britain, and it seems to me too many Brits are just spoiling for a fight.

Most of our prime fish and particularly shellfish are revered by the French.

Cornish fishermen want to sell their fish at a decent price. The French want to buy our fish and are willing to pay a decent price. The French love their food and our fishermen know how to fish. This is really no coincidence given the geographical and maritime closeness of France and Britain.

Unfortunately politics is ruining it for Cornish fishermen and French consumers.
