Patio heaters- yay, nay, which sort?

I've never liked them BUT we might be sitting out there a lot more if we have people round.

The patio is large but reasonably sheltered.

What type works best? I'm not keen on the chiminea type that look rustic and prefer something a bit more modern.

Do they work?

Is it worth buying one?
