Letting agent character reference.

Afternoon All,
Can I pick your brains about providing a character reference to a letting agent? A former neighbour has asked me to give such a reference. The problem is that although I can vouch she is a very nice person, that the family never caused any issues with regards to antisocial behaviour, I have absolutely no clue as to their financial situation so could not vouch that they are financially stable and wouldn't have any issues with the rent.
What do I do? I'm quite surprised I've been asked as they left our road around 2/3 years ago and although I've bumped into her a couple of times since, and have seen a few social media posts, we are not close friends and I would think there are other more appropriate people she could ask? I don't want to appear an unhelpful bitch but am wary of stating someone would make a great tenant if there could be issues. Am stuck. Any insights gratefully received.

Just give the reference. You just need to attest to her having been a good neighbor in the past and that she was no trouble. She may moving because she had issues with her current neighbor so she cannot use them. You'd be helping her out.

This is a bit different but interesting.I'm in the States, 10 years ago I had the FBI knock on the door to get a character reference for a man that used to live below me. They told me it was because he was applying for a job that needed security clearance. The weird thing was that I had had minimal interaction with this man, I really knew very little about him although he seemed ok. So I told the agent that maybe the question was, why did he ask me when he knew I barely had any knowledge on him.... . Very odd. I sometimes wonder if the agent had a different agenda...

I wondered if I was overthinking it. Just seems strange when there must be people who know her better that she could ask. She wasn't even my immediate neighbour but three doors down. I wouldn't want to be liable in any way if it turned out they couldn't pay their rent, or were very noisy at night.
