So a potato some mince, a carrot, a glove of garlic and some mince arrives. All stuff I have in the house already ..... you still have to chop, cut, cook and it was nice, but no nicer than something I’d have come up with by myself.

HF and Gousto have their uses, if you suffer from depression and it makes the difference between yet another junk food meal because you can't face meal planning and shopping but can pick from a menu then it's got to be better when you have children.

Parker231 · 16/10/2020 16:51

What have they got to do with depression? We don’t suffer from depression but love the ease and benefits of using HF and Gousto. In fact we’re going to have one of their meals tonight. They aren’t junk food but lovely meals without the hassle of meal prep or shopping.

If a person has depression and can't get organised to meal plan and do shopping for proper meals and just buys junk food instead then having HF or Gousto can mean they eat decent meals.

Confused
People with depression can shop for meat and vegetables just as easily as junk food! They might find a complicated menu too much of faff but plain, non elaborate food doesn't mean junk.
That comment actually sounds like someone who's involved in one of those mlm schemes would make 🤷🏻‍♀️

I assume the first comma in punky's post was supposed to be a full stop. Could be read both ways!
Pollynextdoor · 16/10/2020 17:24

It’s really great for kids too. So easy to follow. I send them to DS at uni to make sure he eats properly.

FFS. My DSis suffers with depression and I paid for Gousto for her for a while, it meant she was able to cook decent meals when she was too depressed to think about shopping and meal planning. Why are PPs putting the boot in and having a go? Does it make you feel good?
JuliaJohnston · 16/10/2020 18:59

I'm not putting the boot in; I simply don't agree with you 🤷🏻‍♀️

Depression and anxiety can really affect a person's executive function meaning it can be very difficult to plan and organise, or if every depressed to me motivated to leave the house.

When I had PTSD (which is an anxiety disorder) my executive functioning was shot to shit. I also had such bad hyper vigilance and sensory overwhelm that I shopping under fluorescent lights would trigger a panic attack.

You don't have to pretend to understand it if you haven't been there, you can just refrain from making glib and ignorant comments.

What telling me I sound like a MLM person? Yes, that's oh so supportive.
JuliaJohnston · 16/10/2020 19:10

So send an online shop?

punkypurple · 16/10/2020 19:13

@JuliaJohnston

So send an online shop?
I don't need suggestions for what to do to help my own sister.
thedaytoday · 16/10/2020 19:14

@JuliaJohnston

So send an online shop?
Which requires sitting in front of a computer, making a list, checking what ingredients you already have in, doing an online shop, putting away the shopping when it arrives.

Versus someone dumping a box on your doorstep once a week in which you can leave all but the refrigerated stuff if need be.

Do you have any concept that people with depression might find everyday tasks hard? Because you are speaking as though you have no concept of how the might be affected and I'm not sure if you're just not very aware of deliberately putting the boot in as pp has said.

JuliaJohnston · 16/10/2020 19:15

Of course you don't. Your sister's case is personal, though. It's not what Gousto is aimed at, or why most people use it.

TimeStoleMyYouth · 16/10/2020 19:17

Some of their recipes are extremely good, but OMG the washing up they create Shock - sometimes five different pans are needed for one meal, due to dry-frying seeds/spices, sautéing this and boiling that.

The quality of the ingredients is very good, but it’s an expensive way to eat if you’re going to order every week.

JuliaJohnston · 16/10/2020 19:17

I meant send an online shop to the person suffering with depression, thedaytoday

It's what I actually said.
But ok.

So why are you de railing the thread by claiming depressed people can't be helped by it Hmm

What an odd, odd thing to do (unless you spied an opportunity to shit on people with mental health issues and are now backtracking).

Did I say it was? I said that HF or Gousto can help when a person has depression. You disagreed and said I sounded like a MLM person. My sister's case is personal to her, like every customer of a menu delivery service she has her own reasons for using it. It's a fact that such a service can help people - it helps my sister. It might help people with more money than sense, people who are lazy, people who can't cook, people who are busy and a myriad of other people too.

Jesus Christ!

Depressed people can be helped by all sorts of things not directly marketed at depressed people Confused
I'm bowing out now, you clearly can't see beyond your own personal circumstances.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/10/2020 19:20

I nick meal ideas from their website sometimes, but that's all.

catsareme14 · 16/10/2020 19:20

@passthemustard I love my spoon too !! I tried to get another one , no luck

JuliaJohnston · 16/10/2020 19:21

Ideal for stirring....
thedaytoday · 16/10/2020 19:25

Glad to see the back of you Julia,

The person who can't see beyond their own nose is you with a comment like this:

"People with depression can shop for meat and vegetables just as easily as junk food! "

I'm fully recovered from my own issue thanks for asking and I'm now a mental health professional working with people with similar issues.

What about you? What useful things do you do other than claim to know exactly what people with mental health issues can and can't do?
