Piercing ears

What age did you let your DD get her ears pierced? My DD is nearly 7 and I don't think any of her friends have them pierced but wondered what an average age would be these days? Thanks!

9...she wanted it done. I know it's a controversial subject on here so good luck!

musicinspring1 · 15/10/2020 21:54

Most popular time around here seems to be the end of year 6 at the start of the summer holidays before secondary school

CoffeeInAnIV · 15/10/2020 21:54

7 for both of mine. Old enough to have asked more than once or twice, able to clean while supervised and old enough to understand what's happening.

My daughter was 7.

We went to a decent tattoo parlour - a proper piercer.

Even she pulls a face when she hears someone has been to Claire's Accessories! She knows it's not something you do on a whim because it's permanent.

She wears decent gold stud earrings and the piercings were bang on and healed beautifully.

My DD was start off the summer holidays after she was 10. I had initially said a year later so it would be the summer before she started high school but relented. She’s in year 7 now and after seconds doing! I’ve said 13 for those.

Onehellofaride · 15/10/2020 22:00

Oh and yes we went to a proper piercing parlour and she’s not allowed to wear anything less than sterling silver.

We did them this summer just gone in August so time to heal before back to school - going into yr 3 juniors (age 7 going on 8). Been asking for them for a really long time. She was super brave! Proper tattoo place, cost a fortune! (£80 including beautiful Swarovski studs in titanium with a flat back screw in ear rings.) They have healed beautifully and to be fair they look lovely on her.

My dd's were 8. They had been asking for a long time before! My eldest dd (16) now has about 10 piercings in her ears also her belly button! I had loads at her age and I guess it's better than tattoos 🤷‍♀️ I always make sure she goes somewhere "proper" though and I go with her.

My DD's were 8 and had been asking for ages before I let them

lollipoprainbow · 15/10/2020 22:21

8 years

I had a long conversation with the piercer who eventually persuaded me not to go for the needle method - despite going there after much research, because they would use a needle after reading on MN for years it was the best method!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/10/2020 22:24

My eldest was 10, my youngest 8. The youngest got hers done earlier as #1 had huge issues with hers healing and high school don't allow earrings to be worn at all for PE.

indemMUND · 15/10/2020 22:30

If you think she's old enough to understand and accept the procedure, plus old enough to stick with aftercare of the piercings without assistance. Just don't take her to Claire's. My DD is 8 and I think she's ready (we've talked about it for over a year). Unfortunately we're in tier 3 lockdown so it'll be some time yet before we venture out to a proper studio that I trust. I plan to get a piercing right before hers so she can see first hand. I am fighting with wanting to be a hypocrite though, her little ears are lovely. Says she with 30+ ear piercings Grin

LynetteScavo · 15/10/2020 22:50

Children's ears don't stop growing until they're 11, so the hole might not end up in the perfect place if it's pierced younger, which is one reason why the summer before secondary school is so popular.

Gancanny · 15/10/2020 22:58

DD got them done during the summer holidays when she was 6. She'd been asking for it done for around a year before that as a few girls in her class already had them done, I showed her some videos so she knew what to expect and when she still wanted it done I took her to a tattoo/piercing studio and we got it done. It didn't hurt, she hadn't even registered when it was all finished until we told her that was it done, and they healed really well.

Pipandmum · 15/10/2020 23:03

Our school doesn't allow earrings in junior school but does allow students in senior to wear studs so it has become a thing to go get ears pierced last day of year 6 so the ears have time to heal over the summer in time for senior school.
