first impressions count, what makes you walk away thinking

oh they were kind

my dd1 often compliments people about something they are wearing or how they have their hair

Genuine concern for others, little things like you say re compliments etc

Simply, it’s empathy.

Being able to understand the impact your words and actions can have on others - for the better, and doing so altruistically.

Someone who

  • listens to what you say and responds to that. Doesn't always turn the conversation back to themselves and asks questions about you.
  • takes care to tidy up after themselves
  • doesn't do nice things or good things for everyone else to notice
  • remembers things that you've mentioned before
  • always polite

My DD is very kind. Her reflex reaction to people is positive. She says nice things because she sees that. She’s sensitive to how others feel, and acts on it. I honestly don’t know where she gets it from, but school/friends/family comment on how kind and nice she is.

I think a true measure of kindness is how you speak about people. One of my friends, who is the kindest person I know, is always nice about people both to their face and behind their backs. If she doesn’t like someone then she doesn’t say anything about them at all. She’s always been like this ever since we were teens, it use to make me rage when she wouldn’t bitch about my enemies Grin but now I’m grateful that I have such a lovely friend.
