What is your favourite supermarket and why?

I've never really had a favourite, I just shop where I can find deals but I'd like to just start sticking to one. So I guess I would like to ask you what is your favourite supermarket and the reasons why?

Asda because of George clothing and George home goodies. They do great takeaway boxes for two people too! Yum

pastandpresent · 15/10/2020 19:12

Waitrose. It's close and not too big.

Playingchesswithpigeons · 15/10/2020 19:13

@LadyCatStark

Booths but it’s too expensive to do a full shop there. Our nearest town has a Booths, Aldi and Sainsburys close together so sometimes I go to all 3 😂.
Clitheroe ? Wink

@MiddleClassMother

Asda is a living hell (at least the one nearest to me (probably 30 mins) It's full of mad chavs and the floors always seem to have the wet floor signs up, along with battered old cars in the car park, no thank you. Glad i've not seen it mentioned once.
My local Asda is clean with a great (but basic) cafe. Never had problems with chavs.
PercyKirke · 15/10/2020 19:13

Waitrose. It's 1/2 the size of our Tesco, Aldi and Sainsburys so you don't have to trek miles to get everything. Not been to Lidl and M&S is more for ready meals than groceries IMO.

PicsInRed · 15/10/2020 19:13

Waitrose because I'm a twat - or because the layout is easiest. One or the other.

Sainsburys is cheap for dried goods, Tesco for cosmetic goods and Morrisons is good for light bulbs, light DIY and inexpensive & not grotty flowers. Aldi is quite literally the most depressing supermarket I've been in...though not bad for pesky things like fucking book dress up day. M&S foodhall isn't too bad for price, but not that useful as they don't have other brands or non food grocery. Poor old Co-op, the shag not marry of supermarkets.

WinWinnieTheWay · 15/10/2020 19:15

Asda. Fruit and veg is great price and good quality. Many branded products a third of what you'd pay in Sainsbury's or Waitrose.

PicsInRed · 15/10/2020 19:15

*Asda. Asda is the most depressing.

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 15/10/2020 19:17

Our local co-op! Just got one in the village and I love it. Small, decent prices and just enough choice.

Camassia · 15/10/2020 19:20

Morrisons. Their yorkshire or gammon ham from the deli counter is the best by far of all the supermarkets I've been in - not that slippery, tasteless rubbish that some others sell. It's usually on offer too. They also have the best croissants.

GameSetMatch · 15/10/2020 19:22

@Ragwort the booths catalogue is out TOMORROW! Its one of my favourite bits of Christmas picking out all the lovely food!

Booths supermarket is my favourite

Longdistance · 15/10/2020 19:37

I’m a supermarket whore. I flip between Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury’s.
I must say, I like Lidl. I can scoot round in 20minutes. Chuck it on the conveyer belt, throw it back in my trolley, pay and trot off.

MaudesMum · 15/10/2020 19:51

Lidl, because of its reasonable prices, European cold meats, cheap wine and gin and - of course - the aisle of wonder. Excellent fairtrade chocolate as well. I'm also lucky enough to live somewhere with a good butcher, baker and veg shop, so I tend to supplement my Lidl purchases from there!

trilbydoll · 15/10/2020 19:54

Asda for click and collect because (unlike Tesco and Sainsburys) they don't just offload all the mouldy veg on the online shoppers. Also their extra special range is really nice.

Sainsburys for instore shopping because (unlike Waitrose) there's no queue outside.

trilbydoll · 15/10/2020 19:56

Asda instore is a total nightmare because everyone who shops there likes to read the labels on every single item they pick up before putting it in their trolley. Noone seems to be doing a regular weekly shop where they buy the same things each time Confused

Coquohvan · 15/10/2020 19:59

Waitrose it’s the closest Lidl is across from it then Sainsbury’s 5 mins away. Use Waitrose mainly get deliveries Sainsbury’s for fuel & top up shops.

vanillandhoney · 15/10/2020 20:04

Waitrose - excellent quality and great "own brand" stuff.
Booths - same as above plus I actually live close to one. Our nearest Waitrose is over two hours away Sad

Morrisons, because they're one of three that deliver to us and they're far, far better than either Tesco or ASDA.

swampytiggaa · 15/10/2020 20:09

Tesco and Morrisons.

Get my delivery from Tesco using my delivery pass which I buy using Clubcard points 🙂 plus as husband works there I get 10% off.

Morrisons for top ups as it’s walking distance from home. Plus I work there and currently get 15% off.

Bloody hate shopping tho tbh

Ignacious · 15/10/2020 20:10

I have love/hate relationships with supermarkets.
Currently hate Tesco because these days most of their fresh stuff has very short dates (coleslaw 1 day - really?). And their prices seem to have increased a lot recently.
Morrison’s is okay but for some reason I find them boring.
I like Sainsbury’s (used to work there and loved it - I found them to be great employers).
Booths - fabulous, but too expensive for full weekly shopping and don’t always have everything I want.
Asda is okay but some of their fresh fruit and veg are poor quality.
Aldi is fine but again can’t get all my shopping there.
Don’t like Lidl, I think they’re a bit random.
So, currently I’m using Ocado and enjoying access to the M&S stuff (and have been surprised to find M&S prices comparable to the ‘regular’ supermarkets).
Apologies for rambling.

ClinkyMonkey · 15/10/2020 20:10

Struggling to understand how MiddleClassMum's shopping experience at Asda is impaired by the state of the cars in the car park. Anyway....

I have always shopped around as I like shops' different versions of things and also I like a bargain. During lockdown, though, I stuck with Tesco for delivery and Click and Collect and managed to get most of what I wanted. Also, their substitutions were reasonable and not something ridiculous like daffodil bulbs instead of light bulbs. And their own brand stuff is pretty good (especially the Molly's cheapo milk chocolate slathered all over homemade Rice Krispie squaresGrin)

Untangled87 · 15/10/2020 20:13

Sainsbury’s because I love Tu Clothing and the homeware, which I think are much nicer than any other supermarket’s offerings and really good value for money (they’re often reduced a lot too). The stores near me are all really big, clean and tidy, and uncrowded. I really like the Nectar scheme as they have lots of ways to earn extra points, and the Double Up is good. I think their food is often overpriced, but they have lots of yellow sticker reductions at 75% off.

Then M&S are second for having the nicest tasting food and the best yellow sticker reductions. And Asda third for having big stores with loads of choice, and low prices.

SilenceOfTheEmu · 15/10/2020 20:14

If money was no object then marks and Spencer’s, but I do our food shop at either Lidl’s or Aldi - our money stretches so so much further there than at places like Tesco/Morrison’s etc

ClinkyMonkey · 15/10/2020 20:15

Just noticed Ignatius' comment about short dated items from Tesco. Forgot about that. I've had it happen a few times and handed some things back at Click and Collect for that reason.

ClinkyMonkey · 15/10/2020 20:16

Sorry, Ignacious' comments, not Ignatius.

hesaidshesaidwhat · 15/10/2020 20:17

Waitrose and Aldi:

Waitrose - quality, range and the 'shopping experience' (cringey I know)
Aldi: quality, outstanding value, always changing (love the middle).

I only like shopping in small supermarkets. The big ones are full of stuff I don't want and will never want to buy.
