Feels like we could all do with a robust tournament round about now. May I start?

I know this is cheeky, but I’ll begin with...

...Osterley

In retrospect, perhaps we could have gone in this direction with the Paris Metro.

Never mind. East Finchley.

RomanMum · 21/11/2020 00:04

Osterley.

Ran into the Colonel there one night in the early 90s. He said he was doing field research. The bulge in his pocket and suspicious umbrella hinted differently.

ComeBackIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/11/2020 00:20

Oh, the Colonel. Sterling chap to have with you when you’re in a tight spot (anyone remember the kerfuffle in Barcelona in ‘87?) but otherwise, it pains me to say it, something of a liability. And did someone say Paris?

Invalides

MyOtherProfile · 21/11/2020 06:26

Feeling emboldened by acceptance of my last move (and having just about got away with it being a return visit) I feel that while remembering the colonel the only proper next move would have to be Ecole Militaire. Fingers crossed I haven't missed anything.

Yerroblemom1923 · 21/11/2020 07:01

Goodge Street.
Too radical?

nosswith · 21/11/2020 07:28

Radical and Goodge Street are not usually bedfellows. It seems to be the gentle part of 'midtown' as some awful marketing person coined it (not a player of the game of games I am sure), a haven away from the bustle of Oxford Street. Maybe it is the lifts that does it.

Warren Street

DuckonaBike · 21/11/2020 07:45

It’s an early start this morning! A sprightly leap to Angel

ComeBackIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/11/2020 07:52

Gosh, this is challenging. Several options are now closed to me, but I think I can manage an inverse lateral shunt to

Russell Square

nosswith · 22/11/2020 10:34

I'm going to have to use the rail replacement bus rule to get out of this one. Taking us to Liverpool Street.

sashh · 22/11/2020 10:51

Finchley Central

DuckonaBike · 22/11/2020 18:28

Ooh, a rare opportunity to use the Sunday evening overland exception! Dalston Junction

nosswith · 22/11/2020 18:31

Before Sunday runs out, I better use it too and move to Wapping.

Reminds me of playing the game of games a few years ago where I managed to win by a move to Turnham Green that stumped the novices who were playing for the first time. I am glad I introduced them to one of life's great pleasures though.

ComeBackIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/11/2020 21:07

Ah, nosswith, I remember that game so well. The Colonel had blundered by playing a double fleckle to Turnpike Lane, so the game was ripe for the taking. The novices found it most instructive. This is maybe a little outré for a Sunday evening, but let's sashay along to

Abbey Road

sashh · 23/11/2020 06:35

Ahh the Colonel, so much was learned by watching the genius at play. I will, in a bow to his genius sashay over to:

Euston Square

nosswith · 23/11/2020 07:57

It is indeed one of the great things about the game of games that the Colonel took part, and so much was learnt from the master. It also helped the profile of a game that was in danger during the sixties of becoming marginalised and largely confined to history. For that we must express thanks.

I move to Westbourne Park in the hope of a nice cup of coffee.

ComeBackIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/11/2020 10:04

Let’s not forget, too, that the Colonel was inducted into the game of games by his grandfather, the Admiral of the Fleet, who himself introduced moves that were considered outrageous at the time but are now staples of the modern game. One such is the bifurcated lateral shift to

Denmark Hill

DuckonaBike · 23/11/2020 11:27

In honour of the Admiral, Imperial Wharf.

nosswith · 24/11/2020 15:36

I have no idea if there is anyone to honour there but move to Shepherd's Bush. Using the London Overground rule.

ComeBackIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/11/2020 10:33

Hmm. It’s taken me a while to decipher that, but I think my best option now is

Clapham Junction

DuckonaBike · 25/11/2020 13:23

I think I can get away with a hop to Peckham Rye

nosswith · 25/11/2020 16:10

I could chance a move to South Bermondsey before it is too dark.

ComeBackIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/11/2020 00:11

In which case, my riposte is

Totteridge and Whetstone

sashh · 26/11/2020 06:02

Cockfosters

Just to throw a mini spanner in the Piccadilly line

nosswith · 26/11/2020 06:41

Not the finest example of Holden 1930s architecture and I doubt you can get a coffee there.

I know you can at Oakwood and so move there.

DuckonaBike · 26/11/2020 13:29

At least there was no unseemly sniggering about Cockfosters this time.

I’ve been waiting for the opportunity- Caledonian Road & Barnsbury
