This will probably win the most random question today prize but in my experience there's not a lot that mumsnetters don't know!
Why is there no Jurassic oceanic crust in the south west of the the African plate.
It's present in the north west of the plate...
Does it have anything to do with the east african rift 'pushing' the continent south west?
Is the ocean basin closing? Subduction?
Although I don't think subduction because the continent is still moving north east and subduction is occurring in the north (eurasian plate).
Was there ever any jurassic oceanic crust? Potentially that part of the mid ocean ridge didn't start spreading until later? If so why??
So many questions!!!
