Has anyone had a dental check up since covid 19?

I've had an appointment postponed, then the postponed appointment cancelled. The practice says they have no plans at all to start routine check ups again and will only try to see emergencies. Just wondering if this is the same for everyone and everywhere.

I had an emergency appointment for my wisdom teeth and the dentist said I'd need to come back for a checkup as I need a few fillings but she couldn't do anything about it now.

My check up was due January I hadn't got round to booking it and then lockdown. Looks like I won't be getting one for a long long time 😕

As in the dentist cancelled, not us.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 14/10/2020 13:07

I meant to say when we did go to the dentist we had to go in separately (apart from Ds2 as he is 14) we were let in by a dental nurse who locked the door behind us. We had to sanitise our hands and have our temperature recorded too. We were wearing masks and could take them off in the chair but wore them at all other times.

My 2 children and I had our usual check up at the end of July. It was pushed back 1 week for the practice to catch up with all the waiting urgent cases first but other than the 1 week date change it went ahead as normal. I was very impressed.

NHS here, I saw the hygienist last week, dental checkup this morning (both should have been March 2020). They’re not taking on new NHS patients and the intensive questionnaires I had to complete in advance were heavily pressurising me to go private and have goodness knows how many cosmetic consultations and treatments. It felt a very uncomfortable.
I have been with that particular practice and its predecessors for 43 years.

Ghostlyglow · 14/10/2020 13:32

I'm an NHS patient and based in Yorkshire. I really don't want to go private (especially as I work for NHS myself) but I suspect lots of us will be forced to eventually. I'm going to hang on for now as I'm lucky enough not to have any obvious dental problems, but I'm not optimistic.

Yes. We’ve been working normally since June 8th
Plenty of people have had a normal check up

I wish you were my dentist. It clearly differs so much across the country. Like @ghostlyglow I'm honestly beginning to think they are trying to force patients to go private. It's funny how so many practices who have no appointments seems so keen to see you once you agree to pay privately.
EyelinerRocks · 14/10/2020 13:54

No
I called to try and book myself and DC in and was told it’s still emergency only.

Someonesayroadtrip · 14/10/2020 13:57

No , none here.

RollaCola84 · 14/10/2020 13:58

I've seen the hygienist (manual treatment only) but check up has been cancelled twice.

tmh88 · 14/10/2020 13:59

I’m private, DS nhs and my practice aren’t offering check ups till January, should of been seen in august.

We’ve had to go private and I called about four dentists before I could get an appointment.

Nicknamegoeshere · 14/10/2020 14:08

No routine appts whatsoever. A few weeks' back a tooth at the side-front of my mouth started to crumble. What worried me in particular was that it's a milk tooth (I'm 40 but tooth has never come out as the adult one not pushed through). So basically if it crumbled any more/fell out I'd be left with a gap at the front of my mouth!
Emailed dentist who at first said no appts and to fill it myself! No thanks!
Called them and explained. Got an appt
for today and dentist said I was right to come in. I need a full extraction then a temporary denture followed by a bridge.
I'm partly to blame for having three kids as hormones in pregnancy have an effect on teeth and gums! Grin

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 14/10/2020 14:10

Yes, private dentist and we had a check up and a version of a scale and polish.

Bakedbeanhead · 14/10/2020 14:28

I saw the Hygienist a couple of weeks ago and my kids have got check-ups in October half term. We are in Hertfordshire.

Bakedbeanhead · 14/10/2020 14:29

We are with an NHS dentist

Cactuslockdown · 14/10/2020 14:30

I had to go in for a filling so had a checkup done at the same time. I was able to book in next check up for April 21.

Samcro · 14/10/2020 14:39

I had mine yesterday.

EerilyDeleted · 14/10/2020 14:44

Yes, private dentist and NHS orthodontist (the latter for braces put on pre-lockdown).

PeterPomegranate · 14/10/2020 14:45

Yes. Private practice back in August (I think). This is London.

Mol1628 · 14/10/2020 14:46

Private practice (but takes children on nhs) saw myself my husband and two children at the end of august. Had check ups and routine x rays.
