Anyone had a Tesco delivery lately?

When do they take payment? I've noticed Asda have started taking payment the day before delivery. They never used to do that before covid.

I've got A Tesco delivery booked on payday and the bank account will most likely be empty the day before Confused

After they have packed it!
Given we cant have tesco bakery bread on a delivery before 1pm, I'm sure afternoon and evening deliveries will be packed on the day. I guess a very early morning delivery may get packed before midnight, but I doubt it.

Winterfellismyhome · 14/10/2020 08:26

Had one this morning and they've taken payment today. Also got a fresh baton!

barbrahunter · 14/10/2020 08:27

I have early morning Tesco deliveries and they seem to take the money early on in that same morning

ShalomToYouJackie · 14/10/2020 08:28

They take the payment the morning of. I had a delivery at 3-4pm the other day and they tried to take payment at 7:45am but my card got declined as a direct debit came out but all I had to do was ring customer service and pay over the phone.

Just to pre-warn you, if you've chosen for the shop to come with bags they don't use bags anymore but are delivered in ridiculous tray liners that you can't carry and are really easy to drop or break.

theneverendinglaundry · 14/10/2020 08:29

Thanks. That has put my mind at rest. It's between 12 and 4pm so not early.

I've got asda coming tomorrow night 8-10pm and they took the payment for it this morning!

I worked for Tesco years ago packing the deliveries and we'd start at 5am and as soon as the order was packed, a manager would then process payment so it can vary but definitely before 12pm.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have some bags ready! It's good that you could call them to sort the payment

Same day as delivery.
I recently had a delivery due after 6pm. Sometime after 12 I had a call from the store manager as there was an issue with the payment. Sorted and delivered same day.

However if there isn't enough money in the account when the order is placed it will get declined.

Asda have always taken the money beforehand, there used to be loads of threads about this and things going very wrong

canigooutyet · 14/10/2020 08:42

Yes bagless deliveries are the standard again with Tesco. It was only introduced as standard over the last few months because they were so busy.

I've gone back to morrisons on amazon, not only can you get same day delivery, they use amazingly strong paper bags.
For years Ive been wondering how the bags never break on American tv, now I know lol.

theneverendinglaundry · 14/10/2020 09:16

Thanks everyone!

Yes Asda have taken the payment, but I can edit my order up until 10pm, so I wonder what happens if I do? I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Not entirely on topic but when I click and collect or have a delivery I have washing baskets at hand to lob the shopping in

H1978 · 14/10/2020 10:45

Asda have a ridiculous money in and money out thing if you make changes once payment has gone out. You need to check your account throughly to check they haven’t over charged you for anything and refunded for items you’ve removed from your order.

theneverendinglaundry · 14/10/2020 13:22

Yes @H1978 its put me off ordering from them again. Too complicated.

Last week I changed my order after they’d taken the payment and they took the payment twice. It sorted itself out the day after delivery when they did all the adjustments, but if you can’t afford to be without the money for two days be careful.

Ohhh I love those tray liners. Just carry everything in one go inside. So much less hassle than carrying crates back and forth or emptying individual items and going back and forth with them. I found them ok to carry even if some were a bit heavy. I am pretty strong though

I haven't asked for them again though after the first time I tried them as I feel bad about the one use plastic.

Slight digression there sorry. As you were

ChunkLovesIceCream · 14/10/2020 13:50

Tesco takes payment the day the order is picked and sent out

theneverendinglaundry · 14/10/2020 14:31

I've also been caught out by Morrsions a while back, had a delivery booked for payday and they tried to debit the payment the day before so order got cancelled as I had an empty account!

I've been using Ocado as they only take payment after delivery is made, but they're so bloody expensive.
