Aaaargh beans new Neff oven has had its first clean from me and I’ve unwittingly left a tiny amount on a really onions part of the oven handle (stainless steel). How?! I do not know.

This has resulted in it going slightly white .... anything I can do to lessen how obvious this is ? Freaking out.

TIA

I did This to my oven handle too. I used wet very find grade sandpaper and it took the stain off perfectly.

Our Neff oven specifically warns against using oven cleaner on it at all..:

It’s because the door handle is aluminium and it is oxidising. I did the same thing by putting it in the dishwasher.

I fixed it by putting some white vinegar on a paper towel and wiping it over. This will stop the chemical reaction. I had to wipe it a few times as it’s only a weak acid.

Once it had stopped going white I cleaned the film off with soap and water and gave it another wipe with lemon juice on a paper towel.

It’s been OK since.

I only used lemon the last time as I hate the smell of vinegar.

Thestateofplay · 12/10/2020 20:05

OH is an oven cleaner and hates when people have used Oven Pride - it has ruined so many ovens!! Damage can usually be rectified by a professional but will never be 'as new'...

Thestateofplay · 12/10/2020 20:19

Never again... so annoyed at myself. Did everything by the book (or so I thought). Must have been when I moved handle wiry gloves on ffs

You may be able to order a replacement handle if it just unscrews.I'm not going to risk the oven pride now, heard how toxic it is.Got 2 boxes in as well!
