How many supplements / vitamins do you take a day?

I take two (Vit D and Vit C). Just found out that my sister takes 14?! Various including turmeric, vitamins, something for her gut, agnus something or other, cod liver oil, etc

What's everyone else doing? Am I behind the times?

146 days until my skin can next manufacture Vit D from sunlight (hideous depressing thought) so I now am taking a Vit D + K supplement.

I was curious to see what my Vit D levels were as I eat a healthy balanced diet (lots of fish, eggs, fruit and veg etc) and walk the dog every day of the week with my arms exposed if it’s warm enough + lots of gardening.
Took a private test last week and result was Insufficient Vit D levels. And this is just the start of Autumn. Urgh.

Take a multivitamin too and additional calcium.

pinkbalconyrailing · 12/10/2020 16:34

20ug vit d3

400mg magnesium
12mg iron

MrsJonesAndMe · 12/10/2020 16:35

I take something called ImmunoAce which has lots of different things in, including Vit D, C, Iron and B vits too and a whole host of other things.

It's not stopped me from getting colds - seem to constantly have one, but work in Early years...

weebarra · 12/10/2020 16:36

D3 and K
Calcium
I had my ovaries removed at 36 so don't produce oestrogen which is not great for bones.

Davespecifico · 12/10/2020 16:38

It’s really beneficial to take Vit d. Otherwise, you’re probably fine if your diet is good.

VictoriaBun · 12/10/2020 16:38

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/10/2020 16:42

I take a multivitamin and vitamin D, same for DS. I also take manuka honey daily.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/10/2020 16:43

A high dose vitamin D - I’m convinced that a lack of it is linked to all sorts of nasties.
An acidophilus supplement (20 billion gut bacteria per capsule) to help with bloating.
A green lipped mussel extract, supposed to help with arthritis (it worked for our dog!)
A cranberry extract tablet, to ward off cystitis (a SIL swears by it)
A high dose vitamin C

gettingalife · 12/10/2020 16:44

High strength (600mg twice a day) turmeric - gets rid of athritic pain.
Cod liver oil for joints.
Vitamin C with bioflavonoids.
Black cohosh for perimenopause symptons.

All work wonders.

SurreyHillsGirl · 12/10/2020 16:52

I eat very healthily and I have a green nutribullet shake every day with various powders added including turmeric. I still like to supplement this by taking

Vit D - everyone who lives in the UK should take it in the winter months, we simply do not get enough sunlight. I get quite low if I don't take it

Magnesium - again, a mineral that a lot of us don't get enough of. I get restless legs if I don't take it

Hairburst - a multivitamin with added vits and minerals for hair, skin and nails - I've used it for years and swear by it

Arabiannightss · 12/10/2020 16:53

Vit D
Vit C powder
Magnesium
Iron mix that has zinc in too

Someone mentioned something about memory, mine is very poor, is that linked to a vit defiency?

EasternDailyStress · 12/10/2020 16:59

1 multivitamin+mineral
1 omega 3 (advised if you don't eat fish)
1 iron (prescription)
1 oil of evening primrose (in the hope it will help with menopause symptoms)

I also drink kefir each day, which I make myself. I also have 1/4 tsp turmeric and black pepper to take down inflammation.

I eat loads of fresh veg and fruit, nuts and seeds as well.

I'm a bit of a nutrition freak these days!

MaidenMotherCrone · 12/10/2020 17:04

D3 & K2
Evening Primrose

Rhine · 12/10/2020 17:14

A multivitamin
Glucosamine
Omega 3 fish oil

ajandjjmum · 12/10/2020 17:18

4000 iu Vit D3 + K2
High strength Cinnamon to stave off Diabetes - hopefully!

doctorhamster · 12/10/2020 17:19

A multivitamin.

Why are people taking a multivitamin plus extra vitamins on top? Surely the extra vitamins are all in the multivitamin at the recommended daily dose anyway?

Fifthtimelucky · 12/10/2020 17:24

I'm in my late 50s and don't take anything regularly, but every now and again take one of my husband's vitamin D tablets. I should probably do that more regularly.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 12/10/2020 17:28

I take a multivitamin and a high dose of vitamin d.

Mocktober · 12/10/2020 18:52

Seems like shes not that extreme then, although this thread has given me a couple of ideas for other things to take. I might give magnesium and vit K a try then.

OP posts:
CrunchyNutNC · 12/10/2020 19:00

2 high strength vitamin D (I've recently tested low despite taking a supplement)
Magnesium if I have trouble sleeping

I used to take fish oils but read alot about how these can oxidise and consequently many aren't worth taking. I try to eat oily fish instead.

I tried red clover for peri menopause symptoms but I find they trigger migraines so I stopped.

OverTheRainbow88 · 12/10/2020 19:10

I take a borroca a day and Vit D

ScrapThatThen · 12/10/2020 19:11

D, B12 and zinc, plus a DAO supplement that has come to the rescue with allergy type/histamine intolerance/DAO deficiency now that I can't get an H2 blocker and is thank god working. I encourage veggie dds to take iron spatone and vit d (seasonally) and b12. I realise the trendy allergy and use of supplements makes me a stereotype of some kind, but did anyone stop to wonder whether middle aged women possibly have more unresearched symptoms and not just more made up complaints. I try to research and evaluate the impact beyond the placebo/nocebo effect, and I am looking to feel better not to live longer or avoid serious disease.

Comefromaway · 12/10/2020 19:13

Vitamin D 2000iu per day plus K2
