Can anyone ID this spider? (trigger warning - pic attached)

So my DD just found this delight in the garden and I've never seen the likes of it, should I be worried? It's caught a wasp but the body of it is easily bigger than a pea. I'm not scared of spiders but sweet jesus, you could chuck a saddle on this one and ride it!

No idea, but well done to it for catching that stingy arsehole!

Meuniere · 11/10/2020 16:03

I would say this spider is pregnant.

But no idea of what type it is....

IvorHughJarrs · 11/10/2020 16:03

No idea but we've had some in our garden. I have seen more spiderwebs this year than ever before
As long as they stay outside I don't care what they are!

No idea but I found one of these at my old allotment and moved it to next door pretty quickly. Its body was bigger than a penny Shock

pooopypants · 11/10/2020 16:11

I might go give him a pat on the back, he's big enough to take it

I thought they laid eggs and the babies hatched..... Google is my friend here I think

In one day, I evicted 6 spiders from the house - 6! I tend to leave them if they're up in corners though, I'm trying to get an arachnophobia-striken DD used to seeing them and not freaking out. Apparently she couldn't give a rat's arse if they're outside and will happily point them out and name them

Maybe a really big orb weaver?

EvilPea · 11/10/2020 16:19

Tricky to tell from the picture. But I’d go with orb weaver as well, the webs and shape are a good clue.

If your dd is afraid of spiders try and find a zebra jumping one. They have quite cute little faces and are very inquisitive. We are lucky we have loads in our garden, but they sort of look at you and interact.

toffeekiwi · 11/10/2020 16:22

It's an orb weaver, they do have large abdomens. It's probably had some good meals.
