We are selling a sofa on ebay - is the best way to take payment through paypal or in cash? What pitfalls do I need to look out for? Thanks in advance!

Cash. No come backs with cash

Cash in collection and do advise them to have exact change.

Pitfalls - give exact measurements so you don’t have any issue that they then say don’t fit in their car. If legs come off for transport, do say this in the listing and then what the measurements are with legs off

If two people are needed by buyers to load because you can’t help, also say that in the listing. Often buyers expect you to help load their car.

Have it outside your home ready for collection at an agreed time. Avoids them coming into your home and if they try to move it, possibly damaging your house

I wouldn't have it outside in case they don't show and also as the weather could be bad, but agree cash on collection and make it clear they'll need a big vehicle and someone to help them load up.

Take plenty photos and be totally honest about every little mark or issue so they can’t turn up and complain it’s not as described.

Make sure you say it’s collection only at all relevant sections as some people dont seem to do this properly and the item appears listed as ‘free postage’.

Measure everything. Height of seat, arms, back. Depth. Length with and without arms. Height off the ground.

If you want to explain the colour, I favour going to b&q and taking a little coloured paint sample card and put the colour number in the advert so they can then go to their local b&q and see the exact same colour themselves. That way no ‘oh you said it was chocolate brown but it’s more dark chocolate brown so it’s not what I want’. But I haven’t done this recently so I’m not sure if the paint cards still exist!

You could offer a viewing prior to bidding I suppose. As long as they realise it will be standing outside looking in your window!

Always take cash for items that are being collected in person, if they pay by PayPal you risk the buyer raising a claim to get their money back after they've collected the sofa
