Films/Series about coercive control?

Does anyone have any good recommendations for shows or films that portray emotionally abusive or controlling relationships? I've recently left one, and although most of the time I feel good about my decision (and free!) I still feel incredibly guilty. He keeps texting me with messages about how he's suffering etc. But I've just watched "I am Nicola" and it strengthened my resolve, so am hoping to find some similar things to watch to keep me from wobbling. Anyone know of any?

Sleeping with the Enemy. Sandra Bullock. Excellent film for you.

Dirty John on Netflix
The podcast is better imo

I hadn't thought of podcasts, thanks. I am currently watching dirty John, it's brilliant but a bit more extreme than what I dealt with and he seems more of a con-man than anything. Id relate more to the low-level control things that are definitely red flags but can also be explained away if you know what I mean. The jealousy, paranoia, sulking, type but never outright saying "you can't go out" type of thing. Off to find the Sandra bullock film now. Thanks everyone.

I thought 'Sleeping with the Enemy' was Julia Roberts? Excellent film though.
userxx · 10/10/2020 20:53

@RedDiamond It's Julia roberts, brilliant film.

Baxterbear · 10/10/2020 20:54

I believe the recent film, "The Invisible Man" may be what you're looking for.

MrsVeryTired · 10/10/2020 20:56

Deadwater Fell with David Tennant, very good.

ulanbatorismynextstop · 10/10/2020 20:59

Gaslight film from 1944, old but insightful

RedDiamond · 10/10/2020 21:02

Doh! YES Julia Roberts. Sorry OP!

RedRec · 10/10/2020 21:04

Coronation Street for the last few months.

SkyMoo1 · 10/10/2020 21:09

Not a film or series (sorry) but the novel Platform 7 by Louise Doughty is brilliant on coercive control.

Well done on leaving him. If it's at all an option, I'd consider blocking his number.

Toddlersareirrational · 10/10/2020 21:12

I've not heard of deadwater fell, will look into it. Ah yes I know the Julia Roberts one, makes sense now why it sounded familiar! Is the invisible Man not a terrifying horror film? I scare easy and obviously now live alone (except for the kids) so don't want to go to bed too spooked

Thanks skymoo, I love reading so will order that. Unfortunately no, can't block him, need contact for the kids.
