At the risk of sounding like a right old fart, what Dr Martens do the young people wear?
I am so not a Dr Martens type of person but would like to get dd, who is 19, a pair for Xmas. But which 'model' to get.....

The classic ones are 1460's. My DD who is 17 has these.

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2020 19:06

The classics my dds have coloured/sparkly and black pairs, go to SHUH online they have great collections.

autumnboys · 10/10/2020 19:07

DS wears the pull on ones, no laces. He has to wear thick socks or they rub his skinny ankles. He’d have been better off with the lace up ones.

My 22 year old DD is desperate for the classic 1461.

MrsWooster · 10/10/2020 19:20

If she’s a 5 or smaller, you can get youth ones which have a zip up the inside, making getting them on and off MUCH easier-also half price!

Serafinaaa · 10/10/2020 19:21

The youth go up to a 5.5 actually and they are generous! I have the pink patent and the black fleece lined.

Mydogisagentleman · 10/10/2020 19:26

My DD got her first shoes when she was about 12.
Her fascination and devotion led to her having to choose which of her 20 odd pairs to take to university.
Quite a few came from the outlet shop and, as she’s a size 3 she managed to get a number of children’s pairs

Bubbletrouble43 · 10/10/2020 19:27

I got dms last year, first pair since I was about 20 ( over 20 years ago!!) and it seems the sizes are bigger...? Maybe it was the style but I used to buy a 5 and these size 5s are a bit loose so I need thick socks.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/10/2020 19:33

1460s. Get the Pascal leather which lovely and soft unlike the smooth which takes months to break in. I also think they look slightly more feminine if that's of any importance as they are neater around the ankle.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/10/2020 20:25

My 19 yr old DD has been wearing her Vegan DM boots for 2 years, & nothing else (briefly wore other shoes for prom nights & a job interview).

She has a black pair but rings the changes with different laces.

The Vegan pair have got holes in the sole. This may be due to her slightly unusual gait & flat feet. The DM shop kindly gave her a discount on a new pair as she'd lost her lifetime warranty.

MustBeThin · 10/10/2020 20:34

Leonore ❤ absolutely love them. I have 2 pairs and they don't need breaking in.

Yellredder · 10/10/2020 20:49

@Mrsjayy

They last forever my eldest got her first pair at 16 she is nearly 28 and still wears them .
@Mrsjayy I'm still wearing a 25 year old pair!!
IronyFreeAnnie · 10/10/2020 21:07

@yellredder I can beat that - I still wear the pair I got for my 12th birthday.

Will be 42 (how did that happen??) soon 😀

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2020 21:27

Oh the daughters boots are practically brand new Grin

Yellredder · 10/10/2020 21:52

@IronyFreeAnnie - oh wow! That's amazing! Fully expecting mine to keep going for years to come!

Keep1984fiction · 10/10/2020 22:23

Please ask her even if it is in a roundabout way. They last for ever as people say and the wrong ones will be such a disappointment.
