Nearly left pub without paying for drinks - as I am so used to paying at the bar straighaway

Mortifying.

Went to a pub with DS for a drink this afternoon whilst doing a walk. Table service. Had the drinks, relaxed, went to the toilet, DS went to the toilet and was all set to leave near the exit when the barman said very politely "Excuse me, you still need to pay"

30 years of going to pubs and always paying at the bar when you get the drinks does not go away naturally when it's now table service.

I was really embarrassed.

I wonder how many people have done similar recently because they are so used to paying at the bar when they get a drink?

Don’t worry.

We’re finding it’s happening a lot at our pub. No one will think you did it on purpose (we know those types)

I’m now in the habit of asking the customer if they’d prefer to pay now or keep the tab open when the drinks are delivered. Keeps it fresh in their minds.
