Anyone sold a house then rented until you found 'the one' ?

After a disastrous attempt at buying and selling I'm thinking our best bet might be to sell and then rent until something we really like comes along . I don't want to be rushed into anything and there's nothing on the market suitable at the moment
Anyone else done this ?

We sold after having a really difficult time with lousy estate agents, but were lucky enough to be able to stay with family. It meant we could separate our sale from any onward purchase. Our solicitor had a form for us to sign saying we were knowingly making ourselves homeless. We were lucky that family could make room for us and it lasted a couple of months.

Yes, we did. We sold quite quickly after our house went to ‘best and final offers’ so we had to move quickly as this was one of the conditions. Rented for a year and found our current house in that year. It put us is in a strong position for the onward purchase. We did move twice in a year with 3 kids under 4 which wasn’t fun but worth it in the end.
