A 3yr old wont care theyre the only one in uniform will they?

The dreaded uniform error has happened as i misunderstood. We had an email to say as its mental health day they can wear something yellow ie socks, ribbon, tshirt etc. So i sent DS into a school Preschool with his yellow socks. Everyone was wearing full non uniform.

He's a very young 3year old, this wont scar him for the rest of his life will it.

Well it would be unfortunate if his Mental Health suffered as a result of Mental Health Day initiative.....

He wont care. They do start to care in primary though so remember that the rule of thumb for days like "wear something X colour eg socks" is code for non uniform day, as long as one item is the specified colour. They wont ever tell you to wear every piece if clothing in a certain colour because it would mean parents having to buy clothes for a non uniform day, they'd get loads of complaints so they say socks or ribbon or something so that parents only need a small item in that colour.

No he will be absolutely fine, don't worry.

Any chance you can bring him in some non uniform to change into, OP? In my experience little kids often really care about this stuff.

I wont be allowed back on site because of Covid and i doubt they'll change him as he's only there for 3hours.

Ill remember its code for non uniform next time, at least i did it early in his school time

I did this. Sent my DD in in uniform when it was ‘Wear Rainbow Colours for Equality Day’. I don’t think she even noticed and she was 3.

He won't notice or care. At that age uniform is still novel.

bollocks. this has just reminded me that it was my son's 'wear something yellow' day today.

My 3 year old often the only one in uniform in her school nursery class as it’s optional! I don’t think she’s noticed.

IME they don’t worry in nursery. Although it is definitely a worry by Year 1-2. I remember one child sent to school in a full santa outfit 1 week early though and she was pretty devastated. ( We carefully suggested she could stay in the classroom and catch up on reading with the TA instead of the whole school assembly - until her parent could come in with a change.)

I think uniform on non uniform day is actually easier, they can just wear trousers and a polo shirt and they can be given some props to be Harry and the Dinosaurs or something. Also there are also a few children who hate dressing up and so will be in uniform anyway by choice.

DS would have chosen that right the way up to year 6.
He hated any dress up/wear a specific colour, to a point he would go out of his way to make sure he wasn't wearing it.
I remember his first red nose day. He was 3yo. I mentioned it and he said he wasn't wearing red.
So I didn't say anything else, just got out his clothes when the day came as normal and included a red t-shirt. He (for the first time every) went to his drawer and swapped the t-shirt.
I saw a lovely photo of the class. A sea of red. They were all wearing top to bottom red, except ds who was in blue. And a very cross expression on his face. Apparently they'd offered him a red hat to wear. He was sitting on it.

I told him that he could go as the school prospectus in year 6 for book day and wear his uniform. He wasn't happy with that either.

Oh I wondered why DH was wearing a yellow shirt today!

That reminds me of my DS, he hated any dressing up or face painting. Oddly enough he went on to join the army - no dressing up or face painting there .

World Book day in March. Every other kid was wearing full costumes. I sent my 2 1/2 year old in normal clothes with dinosaurs on them as he couldn't fit in costumes (too tiny).

My 3 year old would not care, my 5 year old probably would. I wouldn’t worry!

That's funny.
Ds would get so worked up he'd vomit at dressing up days. I couldn't get school to see that dressing up for this that and the other (oh it's world jelly babies day lets all wear jelly baby colours....) was actually not universally loved.

Ds at one point was set on the raf.

Mess with parents' mental health day? DS and I have nothing yellow between us except his signed year 6 polo in a size 10 (he is 14). He'd be in the closest colour t-shirt he has which is green.

My 5 year old ds actively chose to wear his uniform today! I got out jeans and a yellow top and he was like no, school uniform please! Even though his brother&sister were wearing yellow. He couldn't give a monkeys! My 8 year old dd on the other hand was looking at what clothes all the older girls were wearing and just know she is going to ask for new 'grown up' clothes when she gets home!

I feel like non uniform days are going to be more hassle then fun going forward. Clothes envy is going to be fun to deal with.
