Totally sick of it - contraception

Goostacean · 08/10/2020 16:13

I’m taking the mini pill. Was having 10-12 day cycles (ie new period STARTING every 10-12 days Angry) on Norgeston, after 3 months moved to Noriday and now have been bleeding for a week straight with it getting worse and worse. It’s like a scene out of a horror movie.

Totally fed up. Can’t take the combined pill, don’t want anything inserted (coils, cap), didn’t get on with the implant, DH doesn’t like condoms. Well I don’t like bleeding out of my foof all the time!!! Angry Debating just jacking it in and not taking anything for a few months, letting my body have a break. Last time I did that we got carried away and ended up with a baby (which was fine but would be unideal now).

Any thoughts? Really quite down about it.

The snip?? Seems the only solution

Goostacean · 08/10/2020 17:01

I’ve mentioned it repeatedly but we’re possibly keen for DC3 in a few years- we’re barely into our 30s so I think DH doesn’t want to do anything potentially irreversible.

It's fine having it put in, not had a period properly for 8 years - bliss!

PurpleFrames · 08/10/2020 17:03

Can you tolerate the injection? Or is it's hormonal issue?

Metallicalover · 08/10/2020 17:10

Condoms! I know he doesn't like them but you putting hormones into your body, making you feel rubbish and bleeding all time isn't good either!
He doesn't sound very considerate to be honest.
If you's want another child that's another stress going to be put on your body!

I had been on the pill for 10 years, tried different ones, one made me feel suicidal. Then when I came off if I was like a different person!

Yous will need to have a frank discussion and tell him how this is affecting you.
We decided to use condoms prior to ttc. It then took us 2.5 years to conceive. I now vow not to put any artificial hormones unnecessarily into me (if I needed insulin or thyroxine etc that would be different!)
Hubby understands, if we're able to have a second child or if in 5 years when he turns 36 he'll then have the snip as it's less invasive than getting tubes clipped and I've already put my body through childbirth. In the meantime we make condoms work for us.

Goostacean · 11/10/2020 20:43

Right, I’ve come back, apologies and thanks for the replies. I’m nervous of the coils as I’m concerned it will be a battle to get it taken out if it doesn’t agree with me, given the state of NHS provision in the current crisis, and I’m also 100000% DONE with people faffing about in my nether regions (very traumatic second birth). Condoms are how we ended up with DC2, because neither of us love them and we got lazy...

But after a fortnight of period that became a total bloodbath, then stopped abruptly for 24h, then spotting again today... I’m done. I’d honestly rather abstain through choice and fear of pregnancy than not be having sex because I’m leaking like a disgusting and random tap. Angry Sorry, not a very constructive reply from me.

Oh, sorry, I could try the injection but I’m not happy about 10kg of weight gain being considered an acceptable side effect. Plus, once it’s in- it’s in... AND I don’t really want jabs. Urgh. Can’t win!

Can you not try the desogestrel mini pill. It has a 12 hour window rather than a 3 hour one. It stopped my periods

RichardMarxisinnocent · 11/10/2020 20:48

Have you tried a cap or diaphragm? I alternate a caya diaphragm with condoms and it's pretty straightforward to insert and remove.

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 20:51

Desogestrel ones include cerazette, cerelle, feanolla or some are just generic rather than branded

Goostacean · 11/10/2020 21:12

I tried Cerazette and it made me into a psycho. DH, then-DBF, agreed that I was totally U ALL the time suddenly 😂

DH doesn’t like condom

Stop shagging him until he agrees to use condoms!! If he doesn’t agree, he can go without.

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 21:19

Think they discontinued the other mini pills.

Non hormonal would be condom/diaphragm/copper coil

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 21:20

Do you still get female condoms?

StarlightLady · 11/10/2020 21:31

I’ve got a good memory and l can’t remember when l last had sex without a condom. If l’m with someone who doesn’t like them, that’s their choice, but l’m not going to share my body with them.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 11/10/2020 21:43

Be aware that the copper coil is not necessarily without side effects. I developed dreadful joint pain, to the point where I was struggling to walk. Horrendously heavy periods (previously reasonably light) - I was soaking a super night-time pad every couple of hours, every hour on my worst day, & had to sleep on bed wetting mats. Thankfully I'm not a wiggly sleeper. And I got pregnant on it anyway, & then lost it.
We bought a new duvet after I got rid of the copper coil as the blood stains wouldn't come out, no matter how many times we washed it.

I'm in similar position to the OP re contraception. Can't tolerate combined pill (migraines), psycho monster on the mini pill, it was actually me that rejected condoms as I'm apparently allergic to something in most of them, it makes me feel very sore & raw for days after. Tried normal implant & arm implant - arm implant was before we had DD & we were going mad for 2 years worrying why we weren't getting anywhere with conceiving after removal, & they both made me crazy & put on unacceptable weight. Can't get fitted for a cap (why!?) But we can't risk another pregnancy. DH has promised he'll get the snip when CV has all died down - I offered to do it as it's actually me that can't risk another child, he's perfectly healthy, but he's adamant. Meanwhile it's no PIV for us. Joint decision.

LaraLuce · 11/10/2020 21:50

We had the same dilemma and came to the conclusion that if another DC wouldn't be the end of the world, we would use withdrawal. It worked for us. 5 years, no problems. Conceived on second month of trying when we decided to go for the DC.

I know there are also apps/devices you can use for natural family planning/fertility tracking, combined with condoms at certain times.

Now, for us, another DC would be disaster. I would be happy to use condoms or no PIV, but DH would rather not, so he's going to have the snip.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 11/10/2020 23:03

The patch?

YoureRight · 11/10/2020 23:43

He’s choosing to take zero responsibility for contraception, so his options are: abstinence, condoms, or vasectomy. Time for him to man up.

Goostacean · 12/10/2020 08:08

@SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness That sounds like a horrendous experience, and is exactly what I’m afraid of. At least with the pill, I’ve got fed up and stopped taking it- but the coil is more complex to remove obviously.

The patch contains oestrogen, so I can’t have it. The issue with condoms isn’t solely DH- in the end of the day, for us, it adds another barrier to an already disappointingly (for me) sporadic sex life- and I also want to enjoy myself, feel my partner is enjoying themselves fully, and actually HAVE sex.

OP posts:
Goostacean · 12/10/2020 08:10

But, as a follow up thought, I’m not going to sacrifice my sanity, nice knickers and healthy red blood cell count, on the altar of someone else’s sexuality. Hence being fed up and stuck between a rock and a hard place...
