Where have all the laptops gone!?

Looking for a Windows laptop under £500 but they all seem to be sold out everywhere,
Tried John Lewis, Argos, Curry’s
where else to look?
Tried direct on brand sites but a lot of them redirect to retailers.
Won’t buy something of value like that from Amazon.

Got a decent hp laptop for under £400 from laptops direct (did research on the one I wanted) was also in curry’s for a bit more but not too much more

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 08/10/2020 01:01

Ebuyer is a good site. I’ve purchased a laptop and printer from them in the past.

Susannahmoody · 08/10/2020 01:03

It's because of lockdown

Desks are tough to find too

Arabiannightss · 08/10/2020 06:18

Thanks all, I guessed it was because of lockdown & that’s partly what we need it for as my teen dds school seems to be sending kids home left, right & centre! But she needs a laptop anyway.
I’ll look on those sites recommded, thank you Smile

If you are tech savvy, PC Specialist might be an option

labellesusage · 08/10/2020 06:27

Laptops direct . Where I get mine from

Onadifferentuniverse · 08/10/2020 06:37

Why wouldn’t you want to buy it off Amazon?

They’re great when things are not quite right with something.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 08/10/2020 06:40

Ebuyer as above. World of Computers in Cambridge is good.

popcornlover · 08/10/2020 06:45

Laptops and printers... in short supply since the announcement of lockdown. Well, all the cheaper ones anyway.

MigGril · 08/10/2020 06:47

We got ours from laptops direct to.

TheGreatWave · 08/10/2020 06:52

Same happened in March. Most schools have been sending out questionnaires about technology, so maybe people are thinking things might change soon.

purpledagger · 08/10/2020 06:53

I got one from Curry's toe days ago. I told the SA, that I needed one that was immediately available so he showed me what they had in stock and it was delivered the next day.

I had curry's and wouldn't buy from them as they continually mess up my orders.

Tumbleweed101 · 08/10/2020 06:54

We went to curry’s to get my daughter a laptop. Found the one we wanted. Tried to buy it and there wasn’t a single one available in the whole country 🙄. Why have it on display then??

Xmasfairy86 · 08/10/2020 07:06

This doesn’t bode well now that I have decided to get DD one for her birthday soon 🙈

CountessFrog · 08/10/2020 07:10

Beware the price will probably rocket from £500 because it won’t come with any packages or virus software installed.

We bought DD a MacBook in the end for this reason

Ginfordinner · 08/10/2020 07:17

I found it was the case with sewing machines as well.

Sometimes you just have to put your principles to one side when needs must.

Whywontthisjustend · 08/10/2020 07:34

Have you tried your local pc repair shop? Ours has lots of high quality laptops - refurbished but in great condition, for between 200 and 600. Worth a look.

Charleyhorses · 08/10/2020 08:07

Havr you tried AO.com?

Arabiannightss · 08/10/2020 21:47

Not tried AO so will look now
Had a look on Ebuyer though and that looked positive Smile
To the poster who asked about amazon, I wouldn’t buy anything of great value from there and line Jeff Bezos pocket any further Wink
