Phishing scams

Recently I have received phishing texts purporting to be my bank/phone company etc. Obviously I have ignored them, but wondering how they even got my number in the first place? I haven’t given my number out within the past couple of weeks.

It’s weird as they are using companies that I do have accounts with/frequently use, so it makes me think that maybe it’s someone I know?

I am now inundated after a family member recently clicked on a link sent by PayPal-or so she thought. It’s obviously gone through all her contacts because I’m getting texts and emails. It’s driving me nuts.

@LadyFannyButton see that makes sense, but how would they know exactly who I bank (etc) with to send the correct phishing texts? Out of all possible UK banks/phone companies etc, they ended up with the correct companies for me which I find suspicious

I have no idea where they get the information.

I have an unusual surname and last week i got a leaflet from Debenhams addressed to me with a different spelling of my surname . Some people mistake it and spell it like it was on the leaflet but I always correct them.

So I have no idea where thus spelling came from
