Please help me wash my shower caps...!

Sorry, not an interesting euphemism!

I have some shower-cap style food covers (clear plastic, elasticated edge) that say they are microwaveable, dishwasherproof etc. I use them to cover things I'd have historically used cling film for.

They are meant to be washable, but I can't fathom how?

I've tried washing in soapy water but I can't see how you'd dry them properly. The dishwasher was a disaster, predictably.

Has anyone else got these and has cracked washing them for reuse?

Can you drape them over an upturned item of crockery to air dry?

I wash and reuse plastic food bags, to dry them I put them upside down over a mug or similar on the draining board and leave overnight. If they are still damp in the morning it takes seconds to dry them off with a teatowel. If I've got a few to wash I hang them in the shower on my Ikea socktopus to drip dry.

The problem seems to be the elastic, they have lots of folds that don't dry readily....

Mine are a disaster and will be binned after use. Food condoms

Get some waxed material that is flat - and you can shape around the bowl, but then its flat to wipe down and clean it.
Every so often it might need a refresh in a warmish oven to redistribute the wax. Then if that stops working then rewax it...
But I'm loving them - no more cling film. Daughter even happy to have it for her sandwiches in lunch box because its so cute! (hers has cute bees!)

I'd just run them through the washing machine on a short 30 cycle and peg on the line

GreyishDays · 06/10/2020 20:45

Turn them inside out and put over a bowl once you’ve washed them?

Thanks everyone Smile

I might try the over-the-bowl idea first, and see how that goes.
