Should I self isolate and get a test

I’ve definitely got a cold but I’ve coughed a few times today not a dry cough but a cough all the same. I know tests are in Short supply so don’t want to get one unless needed.

No, it doesn't sound like you've got a persistent cough (or temp, or change to smell/taste)

EveryThingWillBeWorthIt · 06/10/2020 16:16

I didn't have any of the 'covid symptoms' apart from a very occasional tickle, I got a test and was positive (this was before the shortage though). Everyone told me I had a cold Confused Hmm

Do you do the Zoe symptom reporting app? More information there about the less common but still typical symptoms plus they sometimes ask you to test yourself for research purposes if you have a symptom that’s not in the top 3 and they have access to tests for this.

all EveryThingWillBeWorth Yes that’s what’s worrying me as while I don’t feel particularly Unwell I could make someone very unwell if I’ve got covid but at the same time I don’t want to waste a test.

No. You need to have a continuous cough that lasts an hour. Or 3 episodes in 24 hours. The odd cough does not count.

Sheknowsaboutme · 06/10/2020 16:34

I wouldn’t bother.

UserABCDE12345 · 06/10/2020 16:35

No. I had the same symptoms and didn't get a test. My DCs had terrible colds so I knew I had just caught theirs.

I think everyone has to make their own decision honestly (and not feel bad either way).

I thought I had a cold but thought I better get tested to be on the safe side as I knew we all react to this illness differently and could have COVID without the typical symptoms. I didn't want to be part of the problem spreading it iyswim? I'm glad I did because I kept others safe when I had no symptoms but the official guidance is, as other PP have said and the government is now saying don't, get tested without the one of the three major symptoms.
