Do swim nappies have any absorbancy?

We usually go swimming an hours drive away. I take toddler DC in a normal nappy and change into a swim nappy when we get there.

We're going swimming 20-25 minutes away today. Obviously with covid and having to turn up ready to swim and with no changing facilities open, it's a bit of a faff swapping nappies over on the poolside.

Do disposable swim nappies (I have some Huggies ones) have any absorbancy at all? Dare I risk a 20 minute drive in a swim nappy?

Nope they just catch poo. Can you swap the nappy in the back of the car when you arrive?

No I wouldn't chance it. They are used to keep poo out of the water, not for holding pee

As above. My daughter had a wee while I was carrying her next to the pool. I got covered in piss.

Nope, otherwise they'd swell up. Discovered how much a normal nappy swells up with misjudged wave paddling over the summer!

Could you do, disposable swim nappy, neoprene nappy, then a regular nappy on top. Maybe a slightly larger size than normal. Then, if no accidents on the way, you can just take the regular nappy off and jump in the pool

We swim ten minutes away, and I still don't risk it- I change him in the back of the car, and still panic that he'll wee on me whilst walking into the pool!

I feared as much! It's cold, blowing a gale and raining here so car isn't ideal (he's 2 so usually have to do alfresco nappy changes with him stood in the boot). It's a 0-2yr swim session so I'm sure we won't be the only ones doing nappy changes!

Surely you could just use the baby change in the loo facilities when you get there?

I do it every week with my 4mnth old. Also about 25 mins between leaving house and getting to poolside. There’s so many ‘things’ we have to do. Antibac, sign in, arrive ‘pool ready’ , clean change mate before laying baby down, it’s a bit of a faff! So I arrive literally ready to get in the pool.

This is a good idea, my nephew is here currently and he's in a size larger than mine!

Couldn't you put a regular nappy over the swim nappy?

Oh god I didn’t know this 😬 I’ve been lucky so far!!

We also aren’t allowed to arrive very early as the other group come out etc... and it’s a small pool, and we have to adhere to social D rules. We even wear a mask until we line up on poolside!

We're only allowed to enter 10 minutes before our session and there's only one toilet/baby change cubicle, so wouldn't be time for everyone to use it

I would risk it an maybe stick a puppy pad in the car seat in case of an accident.

Won't work today but could you get a cheap reuseable nappy from amazon (bambino mio) to put over the top of the summing nappy, then just whip off before getting into the pool.

You either have a much bigger car, much younger, or much better trained child than I do!

I went with the swim nappy/neoprene nappy/larger nappy suggestion totally unnecessarily. They gave us access to an open changing area separate from the public ones

Years ago Dsis and I took her toddler swimming. DSis thinking swim nappy was waste of money said 'she'll be fine in a normal nappy'
We never noticed until we lifted her out the pool but the nappy weighted as much as the child!

Options use disposable change mats in the car or change her on the back seat. Or line your buggy with a towel and change her on that.
