How long to wait for promotion?

A promotion has been promised (around a year ago but then went on ML) and it still hasn't happened. I'm becoming fairly impatient and have applied for other jobs. HR was a tad useless and CEO promised me he's working on it.

How long have you been back from mat leave?

Fressia123 · 06/10/2020 14:09

At least three months now. Originally k was supposed to only come back PT but to help them I'm working FT.

I was in similar circumstances when I went back from ml having had a temporary promotion in the lead up to going off. I gave them 6 months, the promotion never materialised and I'm now leaving for a promotion elsewhere. I'm actually a bit sad because I m certain if I'd not been on ml I'd have been permanently promoted but nothing I can do. Six months is reasonable I think.

If you’re getting impatient, you can always see what other jobs you’re offered and take a view then.

I think what's making it worse is that other colleagues are getting their promotions and I'm still waiting. In fact there were some internal roles that I was told not to apply for because of this promised promotion.

Don't wait. Agitate. Tell them if you're not getting the promotion despite FT (and probably doing the work of the promoted position, I'm guessing?) then you'll be off to take that promotion elsewhere.

Fressia123 · 06/10/2020 14:29

The role is completely different and I still have no clue what it will entail. My boss has always been vague about it. I don't even know if will use my skillset properly.

Sorry, meant to come back to the thread earlier.

I went back to work after mat leave in Dec, in Jan they told me that I am lined up for a promotion, in Aug they told me to apply for it and in Sept I had the interview (still havent heard because the manager has been out of the office unexpectedly for a few weeks).

Have HR or CEO given you a timeline? I can understand your frustration when others are getting promoted.

Fressia123 · 06/10/2020 20:25

No, no timeline, this is all I've got: "I'm getting everything put together now and will let you know as soon as possible"... I also made two mistakes (of the same sort) and now I'm worried I've jeopardized my promotion.
