Orthodontist/dental worry.

Both my DC have pretty bad teeth. They were due to start orthodontic treatment this year, and needed some hygienist work leading up to it.

They are both at critical points. The younger one is more urgent than the older and her teeth are so crowded and she finds it extremely difficult to keep her gums properly clean. I am pretty certain that they won’t be eligible for children’s treatment by the time we crawl out of this Covid mess in the next 3+ years and then the back log on top of that.

Covid is going to set this treatment back years. I’m absolutely heart broken for them, and am so worried that it’s going to give them a lifetime of such horrible self consciousness.

Is anyone else in a similar position? How are your DC feeling? What happens with kids who are currently in the process of having treatment?

Yes. We had already been on the waiting list for nearly 3 years - horrendous here anyway and various administration mess ups on their part etc. We had an appointment end March which was cancelled and even now, the practise is not taking any new patients.

In a nutshell, I've gone private. She gets the braces on this week. I can't afford it as such but they do 0% finance and I had some money earmarked for holidays this year that didn't happen to that went to it.

We just can’t afford to go private for both of them. I feel so guilty about it because my mum paid for mine some years ago now. It cost £1000s!

So many things about Covid are just totally unfair and I really believe this is one of them.
